I have a question for you guys. How hot does your camera run?

I have noticed over the past week of driving that the camera gets hot to the touch (I haven't taken an exact temperature) after driving for about 30 minutes. This happens at night too (after the sun is down) so I can't just blame the sun beating down on the unit.

Is this normal, or should I looking into some warranty claim?

Just checking out what is normal operations for you guys. Thanks.

Very hot. Card ejected from camera is so hot sometimes so it hurts holding it (though it cools down quickly).

I just got my Blackvue. I ebay'd it and it came updated with 1.39. On a quick intitial test, the footage would freeze very briefly between each clip. I removed the card, did a full format of tha card, then loaded 1.40 onto it. The footage is still freezing between each clip...any suggns?

Tks
How long is the freeze? Are you playing it using the BlackVue provided software? If by briefly you mean a second or less then I think it's normal. I've had that happen to me.

It's normal for the cam to run hot. My drive to work is about 45 minutes and when I remove the microSD card, it's pretty hot. Cam is also hot. Some believe the heat is from the GPS unit. Others say its a general hardware issue.

Anyone else comment?

No way it could be GPS. After all it is a receiver not a sender.
AFAIK the suspect is TI DaVinci SOC.

Ok...so it seems like this is known...whether it is an issue or not is probably debatable. It could be FAD (Functioning As Designed).

Thanks for the input.

Thanks Blue...the pause is very brief - less than a second. Yes this is played in the Blackvue player. I imported the clips into a regular video editing suite, and the video is seamless between the clips in that software, but there is still a noticeable gap inthe audio.

I was thining about trying a better SD card instead if the included class 6 16 gig? Also, the time is off...I set it to America/Edmonton (I'm in Calgary), but the time was off by about 6 hours (I think). Couldn't see any other settings for the time...does it take awhile to update once you change the time zone? I would have thought it would be instant...

I am using class 4 32GB card - even class 4 is fast enough for the BV.

If you have BV plugged into cig lighter, and cig lighter is ignition powered, then I would suggest that you dont turn on then off your car (or off then on) too quickly. The BV should totally startup (wait for GPS led) before shutting down, and totally shutdown (wait for all leds to turn off) before startup again.

Hardwire into a constant in fusebox is the way to go. Rengoku posted a nice DIY here: merged-official-blackvue-dr400g-hd-owne ... st14496479. I took a slightly different approach here: merged-official-blackvue-dr400g-hd-owne ... st14590841.

Now the i-window shows this values, and I just wonder if I have rally upgraded the SW??

You did. BV firmware is 1.40, viewing program is 1.38. Both are latest at the moment.

So far so good with my 32GB Patriot Class 10 MicroSD card. It's successfully overwriting the older videos and I haven't gotten the "please check the SD card" error so far. Fingers crossed.

Hi, I plugged into the BMW X3 cigarette socket and the blackvue, the car is OFF but the camera started to record. What could be the possible trigger?

I believe that's the case. Anyone experience such dilemma? I set PARKING MODE to OFF and it still started recording when car isn't on.

Not all cars lose power to the cig lighter when the car is off. I heard that most European cars always have power to the cig lighter.

My previous 2005 Ford Freestyle - 100% American SUV - had constant cig lighter too.

Stick the card in your PC and run a full Chkdsk. If the thing is defective, this should find out. You could also run a Defrag analysis and see how bad it is.

Anyone have experienced issues with their Blackvue constantly saying "Blackvue for your safe driving....starting normal recording"? I haven't reformatted my SD card other than clearing the space on the card. I cleared all the space and I still constantly get the message even though it seems to still be recording Do I have a defective dashcam?
