If you both join a group you each get 5000 for shopping plus ~4545 from the group. Total = 19090 for both
If one joins, they get 5000 for shopping, ~4545 from the group and 5000 for referring the other. The other gets 5000 for shopping. Total = 19545.

So it's possible that I use SDM optimum card #1 to join a group on RFD and use this card #1 to refer my wife's optimum card #2?

That is the best way to do it if you have 2 cards.
