i love how everyone is a traffic/ driving specialist. s/he posted a video of a bmw obviously in the wrong. no need to criticize poster of video for the way s/he drives or what s/he *should* be doing or not doing.

If he would position his car properly the BMW driver would not be able to do this.
Plus it is not safe to do left turns, since your distance increases to cross oncoming traffic.

The 'correct' position is actually somewhere in between, i.e. front of car touching the middle pt of the road. Too short, not in good visible position, too long, you'll have to overturn.

Anyway, I don't see how OP can make a turn *safely*, and that's the main reason I disagreed w/ you.

Apparently you have one of those 4 wheel steering cars. There's no way you can do the turn of you position yourself like that.
The graphic is hilarious. Imagine doing that in a normal intersection with the opposite direction turning as well, there's no room for both vehicles unless they are sandwiched together Face With Tears Of Joy

Honestly you want the front of your vehicle to be at least where that horizontal lane line is, preferably behind the line.

Yup, good pts. It's all give-and-take, if the other turner is ignorant and is too short or too long, you'll have to adjust. Ideally, both turners are near the middle line and adjusted to the left most side of the opposite leftturn lane to max out on sightlines (still parallel but not angling their cars)...the patented 'S' turn.

No wonder there's so many freaking bad/dangerous/selfish drivers out there. Here's a screencap, how the heck is it SAFE to left turn?
1. car didn't even make its right turn yet, sure, let's FIGHT for who gets onto the sideroad first!!! /s
2. white van ahead *just* opened up the sightline to the left lane of opposite road, you can't even see if some driver could be speeding, unless you love being T-boned!
3. BMW just came out of nowhere

There's no freaking time. Go back to driving school or do us a favor and burn your licence.

You stop too far to make the proper right turn. By the time you would be in your position you could easily turn left. It is 40km/h street you don't need to wait that all the cars are 2km away from you.
When he turned left it is too close to the divider lane means he was too far from the right position.
Here is the proof ( look how close he is to the yellow line and how much there is space to the right.)

My point is if you position your car correctly the other driver would not be able to do it and cut you off like that.
Thats all.

You meant *left* turn.

Anyway, there's simply no time whether OP stopped where s/he did or your suggested position, you're still fighting the right-turner and will hang out blocking the main st because he would beat you onto the side road.

When I turn, I make sure that I have a safe passage and NOT block the intersection/main road. It's not *I'm gonna make it and damn the consequences to other road users*. That's just selfish/dangerous/annoying/wrong.

Face it, it is simply unsafe to make that left turn, you think you'd beat the right turner or be behind him? Either way, UNSAFE.
