Looks like a smartman, talks like a smartman. We're talking sleazy slimeball crook here. Never knew anyone but old ladies looking to get swindled went to him.
The kinds of things they look for are old gold jewellery that was made with alloys of a high percentage of gold so they can melt it down and water down the gold even further thus stretching the amount such that they can make more jewellery from the same amount of gold as the one old piece of jewellery.
Expected tactics will always include that this is rubish or not worth much to justify the eventual price they offer if they do offer one.

He's just playing a mind game.
By devaluing your merchandise, he's hoping to get a good deal on it. Don't take it personally. Visit some markets where you have to haggle the price and you'll see how negotiations work.
If you want to get $300 for the jewelry, go in and tell him you want $500. He'll act like he's freaking out or disgusted. He'll offer you $50. Then you talk and go back and forth until you come to an agreeable price.
Remember, he's a professional. He makes a living paying people below value prices for goods. You won't out negotiate him or he wouldn't be in business. Never go to him if you really want to sell your stuff at a fair price. But if you're really bored and have nothing else better to do, he's good entertainment for a few hours.

i remember passing by Oliver's house (near York Mills and Bayview
) from school. his son attended the same primary school and hs i did, he also got the chubby cheeks oliver has.
south africans are notorious for being stingy bastards, i worked with one at CNE. i mean the white south africans, they are very careful since they technically are living with poor blacks who are still peeved at the colonization of their rightful land.

Are You Friggin Kidding Me...
You cannot generalize like that...its like saying all whites are racist or all black pple are drug dealers because of a bad experience in the past. As an adult, you should use common sense and know not to make statements like that. Did you think pple from South Africa would not be offended..? damn straight they would be. Shoot, im offended, but im not even from ther!

I went in there like 5 years ago to sell and Italian white gold necklace and 4 single diamonds that my grandfather had given me in Europe.
The guy was a total rude scumbag that time as well. Told me the ($500) necklace was "worthless" and offered me like $50. And then he said one of the stupidest things I've ever heard anyone say in my life - he looked at the diamonds and said "These are old diamonds, you're lucky if anybody will buy them." And offered me a ridiculous amount. OLD DIAMONDS?!?!?!? Do you know how many millions of years it takes to make a diamond?? What a complete dummy. Diamonds are older than fossils to begin with!!!
I have never dealt with "Cash Man" again. So I know how you feel. I think all jewelery brokers are the same - scumbags that will try to swindle you out of your valuable jewelery by trying to convince you that it's worthless.
You're better off trying to sell it on ebay.
