When booking a hotel nowadays on the strip, one should do their homework to determine what construction is going on surrounding the hotels they are considering. MC is a nice hotel, nothing special. Definitely wouldnt go the IP but I would prefer to stay at the Aladdin over the MC since I haven't heard much complaints regarding construction noise there.

Any opinions on Luxor, the Flamingo or Harrah's? I was also wondering about the sahara, The prices are a lot cheaper, and I found Some information about the monorail, that could take us to the strip, Would it be better to just take the monorail to the Sahara area of the strip on one day instead of staying there? Decisions, decisions! So many questions, sorry, just don't know what to do. I will not cancel my MC res. yet, but am still looking at other options

I found very little difference betwen a regular room at the Sahara and a reg. room at the luxor (luxor is newer and is a little nicer, I also get a kick out of the pyramid). The luxor will keep you in the nicer end of the strip if thats what your after. I like the gaming on the far end of the strip (sahara and strat.) myself. Never stayed at the Flamingo or Harrahs so I cant comment on those. From what little I know about you from reading this thread
I think you would like the Luxor more then the Sahara.
If your lazy (not saying you are) or you have problems getting around you wont like the monorail. People moan all the time because you have to walk through the casinos to get to it. Yes its a crappy setup but once you get over that its really not that bad. If you take it from the MGM to the Sahara its actually pretty straight forward.

I would not base my decision to stay at a hotel because it's close to the monorail. I find the monorail not really convenient to use and not cheap either. Depending on how you plan to sight see Vegas you might not really use it that much. When I was visiting Vegas we basically walked up and down the strip cause we wanted to check out all the casinos. The monorail would defeat this purpose. And the one time we did use it cost us about $5 each one way. And, as another poster said, we still had to make a long walk through the parking lot, into the casino, through the casino and then we were back on the strip, basically about the same amount of time if we had decided to walk instead (ok, maybe a little exaggeration). Taking the taxi the odd time we wanted to travel from one end to the other would have been more convenient and quicker.

I see you have never tried to get a taxi on the strip and then go down the strip when its busy. The monorail is much cheaper (depending on how many people your with) and faster then. I do agree though, when they doubled the price to ride the monorail (up to 5 now) they really killed the "value" part of it.
Now they that are going to rip up all the trees and everything from the middle of the strip and put a bus lane in there, it really makes you wonder why they didn't do that when building the monorail, and put the damn thing down the middle of the strip. As the walk to the monorail seem to be the biggest problem people have with it. I guess they didn't want he parts flying off of it to hit cars on the strip

Oh well, I guess I'd better find another favorite place to park when visiting the south Strip area. I used to park at the Boardwalk, but as you know, that's gone now as well. I really liked parking at the Boardwalk and the MC since I could always find a space close to the doors and never took more than 2 minutes to find a spot.
There's so much change in Vegas. I just parked in the MC garage in late June and it's gone now!!

IN terms of gambling - all I really do is slots, Hubby might like to do a bit of black jack, we are definately not "HIGH ROLLERS" at all. Won't be spending thousands on gambling ( HOPEFULLY - LOL!!!). Have looked at all the recommended websites - like
www.cheapovegas.com the best,
Just wondering if you recommend buying any coupon books or anything (like ACG), and if you have any favourite, not so expensive shows ( of any kind or content), or attraction that you would recommend? I saw that Bally's has a " PRICE IS RIGHT" show, anyone know if it is worth it? I think they are charging $40 a person, can you get discount tickets, or is it a bit of a rip off. Would like all opinions of any of the above mentioned things.
Thanks Again!
If you don't plan to go off Strip, don't bother the with American Casino Guide since most of the offers in it are off Strip. The ACG and the POV from the Las Vegas Advisor are of excellent value but only if you plan on doing Vegas more than 2 or 3 times a year or if you have an extended stay that allows you to make use of all of the coupons. I would suggest that you just look in the 'what's on' or whatever free magazine that is available in your hotel room with respect to coupons. If you cannot find one of these books in your room or the front desk, they have a many of them outside of the Strip entrance to the Fashion Show Mall. You can't miss them, they are in gigantic sized magazine racks amongst the other outside vendors.
I'm not sure what kind of shows you are interested in but you can always find discounted tickets to some shows from tickets4tonight and tickets2night (across from the MC the Coke bottle)
coupons: http://www.lasvegas-nv.com/tix-4-tonight-coupon.htm

In the afternoon, I like Mac King at Harrahs and Rick Thomas at the Trop. You will find lots of discounts for these shows. You can even win tix to Rick Thomas by spinning one of the promo wheels at the Trop.
I haven't seen the Price is Right show but I have seen 'O', 'Mystere', 'Celine Dion', most of the shows at the Riviera, and others. I believe you can get discount tix to Price is Right but I'm not certain. Mystere is a great show for $60 a ticket and sometimes they will have discount tickets at one of dicounters mentioned above.

My wife and I will be going to Vegas as well....From December 27th to Jan2..
So far I got hotels booked for the Dec30 to Jan2 at the Alladin, as those dates seem to be the high price ones and I was worry the rooms might be gone.
Anybody been to vegas during the New Years eve? any tips on reserving dinner/shows for the night?
We were planning to drive to Grand Canyon, would it be too cold there in december?

Just got this in my email for Excalibur, valid between 11/25/06 - 1/3/07, must be booked by dec 06, 06. Didn't stay there but played there. Enjoyed the blackjack but can't comment on whether the rooms are respectable or not.
It is close to Luxor, MGM, New York New York.

The monorail is good if you want to go to the Hilton. You get free WiFi at the cafe downstairs and surprisingly their buffet is decent: you get wine and beer included.

We couldnt get discount tickets for Celine, but the discounters told us that at best, Celine would go for 10% off. She's that popular.

When did you go to it? I was at the Hiltons buffet for dinner about a year ago and it was horrible. Not even free beer could make up for the horrible food. Maybe its gotten better since I was there.

We went in early September this year just after opening for dinner. It wasnt busy but after about 1/2 an hour it was. We had no complaints on the food or the variety (and I can be really picky). We did go to Treasure Island for dinner in April and I didnt think the food was very good.

There is a convention with 62 000 people going to Vegas on those dates. Im sorry but you don't have much chance of finding a deal on a hotel.
