What exactly do you want people to say? 'Darn those VIA Rail bastards you should have the right to sue'? Theft happens, a lot more people then people would like to admit. The best you can do is avoid a similar situation in the future by not keeping expensive property in the car, and a glove compartment is not fail safe, heck it is always the first place looked. As mentioned before also, a few hints will make your car more of a target then others.
VIA rail will not take responsibility, because it's too much of a liability, and there's no security to your property when you park in a parking lot. All you can do is learn from the future. This is why insurance exists. Sorry for your loss of material, but just let this be a harsh lesson for the future to take precautions. It happens at shopping malls, train stations, subway stations, bus terminals, even at work (again you'd be amazed at the amount of break ins on work property). Train stations are worse for a victim because there is even less chance to get caught

That's how it is at RFD most of the time.

This thread proves how many "know it alls" this site has, many aren't old enough to have lived through anything or have gleaned all of their vast knowledge from sitting in front of a computer all day. Many others have a complete inability to admit they are wrong or will continually argue without bringing up any valid arguments.
Good luck!

What makes you think some of the folks responding aren't old enough to live through anything and is a "know it all" ? I've said it before and I'll say it again. I was robbed too (more then once too) and I was stupid that I left my gps in the glove compartment. Thank god I just lost my $100 GPS and a few CD's. For me I was parked infront of a relative's house! Who do I b!tch to about it for liability? Go yell at my relative and demand they give me a new GPS/CD's as it was infront of THEIR house?!!!!! I'll say you're a "know it all" for assuming everybody responding is a teenage kid. I'm getting a bit tired of that stigma.

It was your fault for leaving the items in the car, lets say I leave a bag of money in the car and it gets stolen? who's fault is that? Of course it is my fault for leaving the sack of cash in the car for it to get robbed, just as you failed to remove the GPS from sight.
Third the station is what 3 km away from Vanier>? you thought your car would be safe?
Thank god the tires were left.
Just treat it as a lesson learned.
Also Cd's don't value 900 dollars ...
+1 OP is coming off as this snotty "hell I paid the $18 for parking I better da*n get my compensation as it's Via's fault ". It shocks me how some folks are so naive.

yes most trunk are poppable from the driver side. My car actually has a way to lock the trunk that prevent that sort of things from happening. Not sure if other cars has those too...
eitherway. lesson learned, just dont leave your bling blings in your car while you go on a trip...

I'm sure some folks aren't old enough, but some certainly are extremely argumentative

Most adults can word an argument well enough to get their point across without appearing annoyed, disparaging, or argumentative.
She did nothing wrong other than leaving her car parked in the same place for a few days, I'm sure the thief's noticed is right away.

The only thing I fault VIA Rail for, is the imprint of the parking ticket...it says the exact date and time you purchased the ticket for parking, and the date and time you expect to arrive back ( you have to pre-pay by a machine)....why don't they have a system where you press the button for the ticket, the machine spits out a ticket with a bar code imprinted on it, and upon exiting, you insert your ticket into the machine, which you then pay for. This way, thieves don't know how long you are expected to have your vehicle parked there for.

I feel this is a very valid complaint, however your previous comments do not really fit in line with this one.

Pretty sure googoo is talking about us. We’re immature folks that can’t formulate a proper argument like an “adult”. Well that was my impression of his quote.

No, I'm in for a good constructive argument like anybody, but people continually tear apart the OP for doing incredibly stupid things that are obvious to all the geniuses, but a huge percentage of the people that don't spend their days on the web would never know.
People seem to want to continue to argue and never see another persons viewpoint as correct, and tons of arguments are filled with circular logic.
These certainly aren't general statement I'm making, and aren't directed at everybody, actually directed more at people that just can't constructive either a constructive or helpful post, or add nothing to the conversation BUT their 2 cents, and don't even try to look at other viewpoints BUT their own.

I feel for you OP. I had my car broken into many years ago when I lived near Washington D.C. We took a day trip on the Metro into the city and when we got back my car didn't have any door locks. They did the same thing with a screwdriver, except they pushed one lock down inside the door and had to go to the other side and try again. If they had butchered that one, then I wouldn't have been able to drive home. I could handle them taking my stereo (wasn't worth much and my replacement was much better). It was the destruction of the locks that got me rattled. We weren't the only ones targeted that day either.
