Jan 31st, 2008 10:28 AM #2Please note that this is a pre-certified version that is missing the Netfile and print functions. You will need to download and install the certified version once it becomes available.
.. missing e-file and print functions .. not very useful
EDIT: Can you wait and download the certified version free when it becomes available or do you have to download this version to be able to get it free?Last edited by almostfreeman; Feb 1st, 2008 at 11:29 AM.

All tax software are missing NetFile functions until mid-Feb when CRA certifies them. Even QuickTax doesn't have Netfile functions until the update comes out in mid-Feb.
That being said, there's already several threads discussing tax software already:

Thanks, looks interesting so I checked it out. But as always:
Please note that the Quebec provincial tax is not yet supported. This does not prevent you from using Netfile to file your federal tax.
What's so complicated about my Quebec taxes???_______________

Nothing..
Revenue Quebec would have to certify the product and they have not. If you try out Studiotax you will see that it does prepare the QC return. It just says on it that it is "not yet supported" because they are not approved by Revenue Quebec.
There are ~ 5 products certified for use with Revenue Quebec (as far as I know). The are
Ufile which is based in Montreal
Quicktax who opened a call centre in QC before or about the same time they got certified
Taxtron who were sort of the first complany to offer tax software (was grifftax at the time)
This one .. which I have never heard much about http://www.5dollartax.ca/default-e.htm and might be free.
Also this recent addition http://www.impotprofessionnel.com/ which cost $20 but only allows the QC return to be netfiled (not approved for Federal netfile).
If I was in QC, I would just hope Studiotax gets certified this year.Last edited by Barry; Feb 2nd, 2008 at 01:41 PM.

Free tax software: StudioTax.
I've been using this a few years now, works really good for basic returns, it's posted here every year, but i haven't seen it yet this year, so i figured I'd post it up.
All they have right now is the pre-certified version, which is basically the official version just with print and netfile disabled, they have to wait for the GOVT to give them approval, which happens every year, but you can still fill out all your info and everything, save it, and then re-open it when they launch the certified version, then all you need to do is hit print or whatever.

EDIT: The certified version has been released and is available or downloadLast edited by T3rry; Feb 15th, 2008 at 12:55 AM.

used this last year for both Ontario and Quebec Taxes, seems to work great. Would recommend it, and save the $40 over Quicktax

+1 for Studiotax.
Been using it the last 3 years and it works like a charm. A good, basic tax program that lets you get your info in, and whip off a netfile nice and quick.
As long as you don't need to be hand held every step of the way, it's a great package.
