Looks like Meridian will cover the transfer fees up to $45. Just saw in one of their Facebook posts.
Went to their facebook page and didn't see anything about covering transfer fee. where did you see it and what does it say?

Thanks for hghlighting this good deal, OP!

Quick question: I am in BC and it does not seem like they have any physical branches outside of Ontario. Does anyone know of any credit unions / banks matching thier offer(s) or even coming close to them in BC? I am a bit old fashioned and prefer to visit a physical branch.

I recently moved my TFSA over to Meridian and the rep I have been dealing with over email has confirmed I am eligible for the 1% promo even though I'm in Alberta. I'm definitely tempted by their 34 months promo at 3.4% plus 1%. I'm going to confirm the details on Monday but if I can get 4.4% guaranteed I think I'll go with it.

we’ll give you a 1% cash bonus up to $7501

there are some fine prints i could not find. it's $750 ^1, can't find the superscription. so if i transfer BOTH tfsa (75000) AND RSP (75000), do i get 750 + 750 = 1500?
how do you get 75k in TFSA if the limit is 63.5K ?

1% is just one time bonus when you transfer and isn't compounded anually.

That's what I need to clarify.. below is the quote from his last email with me asking if my TFSA account I just opened had the bonus 1% applied to it.

"[Your TFSA account] is getting the normal 2.9% in the variable as a TFSA. It would apply for the 34 month special at 3.35%. I can lock it in for that term VIA email confirmation from you."

I'm going to follow up as 4.35% for ~3 years would be neat.

$63.5K is what you can contribute as a max if you were 18+ in 2009 and have never contributed before. If you contributed every year since the program started then you should have accumulated annual compound tfsa interest which would get you to $75K or higher.

Their 3 year gic rate is 3.45% per year and the 1% would be a 1-time bonus, you would be getting an overall average gic rate of 3.78% per year for 3 yrs. Still better than any market bonds can offer.

Hey guys... can I max out my TD TFSA then transfer it to meridian before March 1st? Would that work? I just want to make sure I can transfer from TFSA to TFSA in the same calendar year and it won't count twice towards my contribution room...

Yes you can. I had mine with Tangerine, and to transfer between TFSA, tangerine would charge 45$ for the application, and meridian will rebate that fee. I just went to the branch last night. So nice to have a clear quick and no sale pitch visit.

Guys, just dont confuse the 1%, it is not paid monthly. It is only paid as a lump sum at the beginning based on the initial deposit and that's it.

Is the 1% per account type? Or is it just 1% max no matter which accounts I transfer into

So what 1% is it? Can you give an example?
