You need a chequing account. Regarding the fee structure, you can look up the fees in their website for details. Meridian has a pay as you go plan with $0 fee. Any other plans require 1000 to waive the monthly fee (which is quite reasonable).
Also, if you are worry about deposit, they do have a mobile app that allow you to take picture for deposit.

Been banking with them for over a year. I maintain $1000 to waive all my transaction fees in the chequing account. Used to bank with PC and BMO but Meridian has been fantastic. Any other items that require a fee such a safety deposit box were much lower than at the big banks. Will be staying with them for the foreseeable future. Waiting for mortgage to expire so I can move that over too.

Also their customer service is quite responsive. I send a message online and usually get a response within 24 hours. Only downside is the lack of branches but I really only go once or twice a year.

Anyone successfully open an account over the phone only? I was unsuccessful with the online application due to the safescan warning left by the ID breach at people's trust.

When I called to cancel, the CSR I spoke with said I had to speak with some financial advisor first, who would call me back later and help close my account. Perhaps to convince me to stay otherwise?
Anyways, I had forgotten about that missed call for a week, called back to CSR and this time, the person was able to close the account.
For me on my first online message they told me that I had to call to close the account.

I've reply back that I knew other customer did close through online message and that I wanted them to do so.

They did close it after that without me calling.

Got this info too. Guess due to People's Trust ID breach issue.

Yup. I was told by an advisor if we cannot complete application online they can only suggest in branch so anyone not close to a branch is out of luck.

Was it always deposit $1000 and get $100? I thought it was deposit $100 and get $100 so that's what I did... no wonder I haven't received my money yet lol but to be fair, they also don't answer emails and could have easily told me but instead I have three unanswered emails.

Went to the branch, did almost everything, and then found out you can only get the 100 if you open it online... anyway, 1.5% is not too bad... just no $100

Yes, this is when I did it. Thanks for the response. Does anyone know what's the best way to contact them? They don't reply to emails.
