Michelin Primacy MXV4 is it good for winter use? TDbank

I used to drive ACURA EL with Michelin Arctic-Alpine Winter Tires. Very dangous driving on light snow + icy condition. The tire looks very aggrressive but it didn't work out well. Now I am driving HONDA Accord with NOKIAN WRG2 they are good tires in winter but too soft for summer. I guess nothing is good for both weather. Anyone had use Michelin Primacy MXV4 before ? People said MXV4 out performance NOKIAN WRG2 and also cheaper too.

In a nut shell, instead of trying to risk it with All-seasons, get a good ICE & SNOW winter tire.

There are a bunch out there, please try looking at US websites like Tirerack.com or discounttiredirect.com and see what is available for your car in that size or one size down, AND then go to your local tire place and compare prices.

The Primacy is rated as an all-around decent tire but the Nokian all-weather (I've owned 3 sets of the 1st gen of this tire - the WR) should significantly outperform the Primacy in snow conditions. OTOH, the Primacy should offer better summer performance. Plus the Primacy should be cheaper than the Nokian.

If those are your only 2 tires, that essentially sums up the choice you have to make. That being said, I favour dedicated summers and winters and would obviously choose two entirely different tires.

Didn't want to start a new thread and this one seemed closest to the topic I wanted to ask about (see at least I searched!)

Anyways, I'm already running winters, but come the Spring, I'm going to need to pick up a new set of non-winter tires.

I have always been using the Michelin MXV4 series tires - from one generation to the next - by the time it needs replacing the new generation is out (i.e. MXV4 then MXV4+ then Energy MXV4). I have not tried the Primacy MXV4 and was wondering if anyone could comment on their personal experience with them and, if they have replaced them with something else, what tire they replaced it with and how they found that compared to the Primacy MXV4 for non-winter use?

I have been happy with the MXV4, but let's not kid ourselves, it has always been one of the most expensive grand touring tires (205/60/16). Pete_Coach posted a thread with the Consumer Reports tire ratings last October (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/c...atings-805119/) that showed the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity to be quite a highly rated tire as well, just in different speed categories. Anyone have any experience with this tire as well?

I've used several sets of the Energy mxv4 and now the primacy mxv4. In a blind test I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I think the name change is more of a marketing thing than anything else. Slightly better turn in is the only difference when pushed hard.

As for the OP, when the tires are new and soft with full tread depth. They act just slightly worse than a GY tripletread or nokian wr series. After the first season the rubber hardens quickly and becomes useless in winter.
