[Microsoft] Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 15 (2 in 1) 4K Screen/ 1TBHDD+256SSD/16GB DDR4 / NVIDIA GeForce Card $1399 ($1349 for students)

I was in the market for a new laptop. Searched various places including Lenovo EPP site as well as several Costco locations for Lenovo Legion Y520. Touch wasn't important but the screen resolution was. Didn't buy from the US as returns can be a hassle.

Ended up getting Ideapad Flex 5 15 from Microsoft Canada store though they have Legion on sale as well. Got it for $1349+tax ($50 additional student discount). They are giving away Intel Creativity Software Starter Pack (apparently worth $500) for free with it as well. The same laptop is a bit expensive at other stores.

The touch laptop comes with the following specs

• 15.6-inch 4K UHD (3840x2160) touchscreen
• Intel Core i7-7500U
• 16GB memory/256GB SSD + 1TB HDD
• NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics
• English Keyboard

There are reviews on the site stating that computer doesn't have RJ45 connector but Microsoft team confirmed that this version has the ethernet port. I'll confirm once it arrives.

Good deal?

4k on a 15.6" screen is an overkill ... personally I prefer 1080p on a 15.6" screen so you won't have to squint so hard!

You can just scale it to your liking

Yes, but then you spend a lot for hardware that can't be fully utilized. It's like buying an intel core i7 or AMD Ryzen cpu to play Solitaire; so only buy what's needed

Then it becomes a waste of money, you're essentially paying for something quite expensive that you're not using, when the cost of that item could be used elsewhere. IMO it'd be better to get a different laptop, with 4k on a 15.6" screen, IDK how I'd even use the touch feature as well.

You scale the font size, not the resolution. You can still watch pictures and videos in 4K.
