Not to even mention DX 10.1 will require Vista SP1..
Glad I didn't buy into DX10 yet.

As far as I can understand, I don't think it's 'incompatible' ... It just says "although the new version will be backwards-compatible, there are currently no video cards on the market that completely support the D3D 10.1 feature set.".
I think it means there might be DX10.1 video cards but DX10.1 will work on DX10 cards.

But not the full feature set.. that's like saying DX10 works on DX9 cards.. just without all of the features.

A new generation of video card hardware will be required to fully support DX 10.1. Bottom line, buying a DX 10 card now is a waste of money. Wait for another year for things to settle down.

Then again, considering there isn't a single DX10 game out still (not including DX9 games with DX10 patched in for a little more eye candy).
I don't think anyone has to worry about DX10.1 games for quite a while.

But with this release coming so early, you have to worry that developers might skip DX10 entirely and jump straight to DX10.1.

its like the same thing with DX9 cards. Theres DirectX 9.0A/B/C. and of course these current cards will be able to support it. They have to update sometime.

It sure looks more and more like MS is trying to destroy PC gaming. I realize that we've got new standards to use for better gfx et al but this planned obsolescence is starting to take its toll on me.
I enjoy my 8800gts not for DX10, but because its a fast video card. Yeah a few games have dx10 patches and are nice but the performance hit of Vista further darkens the picture. The few people that have dx10 capable cards that ALSO have Vista are so small that its going to take years for any real games to come out supporting DX10 from the ground up, and not as I said above, as a patch.
I've been using Vista for a month or so now (had to learn it to support some clients) and its a pain in the ass with games. The new 'fix-all' is to run troublesome games in admin mode. Well sure, that's an option, but doesn't that put us directly back to the problem we had the first time round with everything running as admin.

Just an update ....
According to nVidia, this is just a rumor afterall. It says its G80, G84 and G86 will support DX 10.1 and SM 4.1.
