I'm sorely tempted by that i7/16GB price (non performance base) but I think I'm going to wait till Black Friday. Hope I don't regret it!

and the difference between 520 (integrated GPU of the i5 CPU) and 940M (GDDR5) is huge:

without dGPU:

3DMark - Cloud Gate Standard Graphics 1280x720

3DMark 11 - Performance GPU 1280x720
1299

with dGPU:
https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Ma ... 640.0.html
3DMark - Cloud Gate Standard Graphics 1280x720
11340 (70% better)
3DMark 11 - Performance GPU 1280x720
2548 (100% better)

is your house flooded with laptops because I vaguely recall seeing you buying laptops all the time on here...
Then again when you look at the Surface Pro 4 w/ Intel Iris 540 the dGPU sounds a lot more lacklustser especially considering the Iris shares the same TDP/Thermals as the CPU and has only 64MB of dedicated memory (L4 Cache). The Surface Book dGPU will elevate scores slightly over the standard 940M though as it's an "enhanced" version but it's not going to give you like +20FPS, just a bit more oomph.

At the end of the day just don't buy these for gaming cause with that money you could just get a proper gaming notebook.

Intel Iris Graphics 540

Cloud Gate Standard Graphics 1280x720
Score: 11327

3DMark 11 - Performance GPU 1280x720
Score: 2211.5

I don't see why you would bring up surface pro.

my post was about surface book with dGPU vs. surface book w/o dGPU

More just the point that the dGPU is kinda crappy. Like more for people think oh it has dGPU must be amazing, then they buy it only to be disappointed.

Just trying to make sure people's expectations are in line, that's all :)

edit: well, the one you brought up is i7, which is considerably more expensive...$1529+$120=$1649...so i think the $1359 OP listed is still a much better bang for the buck as it is $300 cheaper.

you are right, I see your point now.

surface pro 4 i5 version, 256GB and 8GB ram (so comparable to the $1359 surface book) plus key cover is also $1359. so yes, you are right, if anyone would like to get the dGPU version of surface book (i.e., the one listed in the title here), he is better off with the pro package below:

Thank god I sold mine before the drop. I was feeling it haha. Great deal though for people looking at the previous generation.

Mine arrived this morning, very fast! Courier rang and left it on the porch. Crazy!

I'm probably going to send it back - I found a SP4 m3 on amazon for $799 CDN on refurb. Battery life seems to be better than SB and more portable too.

The Source has SP4 keyboards in red and teal for $101. So thats about $300 cheaper in total.

m3 is quite weak and $799 appears to be only $50 less than the official price:

Probably not. My guess is it will have an Intel wifi card, and you can’t replace it easily.

Also the graphics switching might be wonky and the digitizer/pen probably won’t work.

Yeah looks like a hot mess:

The i5 128GB one seems out of stock currently. Do you guys think Microsoft would restock for November 23? Or do you think since they're sold out now they wouldn't be restocked for black friday

I sent mine back without opening it so there should be another one in the next couple of days. :)

Any reason why you didn't keep it? I've been reading reviews online and it seems the battery life isn't that fantastic :/

Has there ever been a sale of this caliber before for the surface books?

I like the surface pro better, lighter and better as a tablet. The Best Buy deal on surface pro suits my purposes better.

Work gave me a surface book for a while before I went BYOD. The battery life was amazing! But I did not have the nvidia version.

You have to look hard for reviews with the integrated graphics, most reviewed the nvidia performance base version.

Here's a good one where they tested both: https://www.anandtech.com/show/9767/mic ... 5-review/7

Have fun waiting a year to get your device. I put in an order for a refurb Surface Book a whiiillllleee ago, and it hadn't yet shipped earlier this week, regardless of the fact I selected Express shipping, so I cancelled. It's a rampant problem with the online Microsoft store that you can read about all over the internet.
Customer service is awful.
