but there doesn't seem to be many real hd 15.6" laptops (with current cpu, etc.) for less than $700, so there is a definite problem in this "china-made" business strategy. you can buy a pretty nice bottom-half of a laptop for $300-$350, but in order to actually get a display that doesn't make your eyes bleed, it is twice that or more? I can buy a new 1920x1020 laptop screen on ebay for $50, and it's definitely cheaper through an OEM, so what's up?

No cost just a hassle. I'm going through this for my dead Dell. Their systems are really stupid. Just takes a long time to get through all the hoops. Mind you I paid only $225 or so for the edu price on the celeron model not this one.Trendy07 wrote:What is the cost to transfer purchase

#1 - a couple of years ago you wouldn't even get a damn laptop for $300-350, so I don't see the point in bitching about the res on laptops that cost as much as cheap tablets.JackWhyte wrote: ↑but there doesn't seem to be many real hd 15.6" laptops (with current cpu, etc.) for less than $700, so there is a definite problem in this "china-made" business strategy. you can buy a pretty nice bottom-half of a laptop for $300-$350, but in order to actually get a display that doesn't make your eyes bleed, it is twice that or more?
I read an article where manufacturers are literally giving away these low-rez 1366x768 junk displays because they are so incredibly cheap t make and no one else wants them for anything.

yep, welcome to the new world of china-made generic laptops, where "free" 1366x768 junk-screens are used for virtually everything to save money. a real hd 1920x1080 15.6" screen might cost the oem $25, but the junk screen is probably $2, so they make more money.. that is, until consumer say no to junk screens!

they keep making them because there are existing 1366x768 lcd factories, that should have been shut down years ago (no TV or even the majority of tablets would use such a horrible resolution) but rather than be refitted and renovated for current technology (at a significant cost), they found a "new market" for their junk, and keep pumping out these ancient laptop screens (at an extremely low cost) then sell them at a profit to greedy north american laptop vendors looking to pinch more pennies.Financials wrote: ↑#2 - the bottom line is funny ... why would the manufacturers continue to make them then?

I wouldn't mind of they actually made a bilingual keyboard, but these are actually "canadian french" keyboards, designed for french first, and then allowing english people to also peck away as well. don't believe me? look it up.dotsthewarlock wrote: ↑Why fight a losing battle? Join the dark side!
