In case you didn't know, you haven't told us what model you have. It would really help if you do. "Microsoft Wireless Notebook Mouse" is about as vague as it gets. It's like saying..."I bought some food. You think it's any good?"

Microsoft Wireless Notebook Mouse
Bought this mouse at Staples for $29.51 on sale from $50. I love it, and it exceeds my expectations. However, I heard these things chew through batteries pretty fast and I want to maximize how long it lasts. Other than sticking the little USB receiver under the mouse to depress the tiny button to turn off the optical, is there any other way to turn it off? I mean, I can take out the USB receiver, but the mouse always has that optical pick-up on. Does that affect battery life??

i have 2 of these mouses for my laptops and have not had any battery issues with it at all. I don't think i've even replaced the batteries yet and i don't even put the reciever back in the bottom of the mouse, i leave it plugged in. This mouse is awesome, i'm buying another one for my sister too and her new laptop.

I have the wireless laser notebook 6000 mouse. It's battery life is rated at 6 months. I don't take the receiver out of the usb port unless I am gonna take the notebook and go out mostly. Feels like it lasts pretty long and haven't switched the battery yet. No real complaints about the mouse. Wheel mouse is silent, which is great except for counterstrike when u try to switch the weapon u want with the scroll, maybe u have to turn the sensitivity down for that. Zoom is nice but hard to press.

Thanks 5abSingh, yes that's the one....3000 I believe. Taking out the usb receiver is no prob, but unless I put in under the mouse the optical is always on.....but since it doesn't complete a circuit, I guess it doesn't take any (or much) battery power. I guess it's not much of a concern if it's rated at 6 months.
The mouse itself is awesome and worth the $30 forsure.
