Mid Range cell phone for teen

I am looking the LGv30 at B&H photo for $399 (us$$), a savings of $300 to replace my sons LGv20 that has broken thru a drop. It seems like a very good deal, but are there other phones for that price (or ideally less!!!) that would make a 15 year old boy happy. Looking for best bang for the buck here. Any input is appreciated

The V30 is not a midrange phone. It's last year's flagship at a passable discount. Look at the Moto G series. The camera won't be quite as good. If he can keep it alive for two years, then perhaps he can justify going back to a flagship. If he manages to lose or break the Moto G, get him a flip phone and see whether he improves his level of care.
