Nice find, Thanks OP. This looks to be a good price for a Miele and our present Vacuum is dying.

At that price, it's an entry level Miele engineered in Germany but made in China. Only an authorized dealer sells the Miele's which are made in Germany and there more money then that.

Worth checking out as our experience is different. We bought a S7 Miele last month from Costco. It is a German made model. Had a canister been available, we would have purchased it instead of the upright (though we're very happy with our purchase now). The same series, with only one difference was $300 more at Sears. After our third Kenmore died less than 2 years from new, we said no more Sears and happend to find the Miele on the shelf at Costco. Compared to a Dyson, it is better built having a substantial feel and smooth, quality operation. Add the 5/7 year warranty and it makes for a great buy.

Here's an annoying guy doing a demo of both.
Youtube
I've never used a Dyson so I can't speak for it, but I did get my mother a Miele last Christmas. Excellent vacuum and very quiet after all those years of a Viking and Kenmore...

that guy doesn't "personally" want to breathe in any particles, but eating an excessive amount of food seems to be okay.

We bought a Miele Hermes canister vacuum last winter and it's awesome. Cleans very well, long retractable power cord, super easy to maneuver and most importantly extremely quiet. Paid 600$ for it and would definitely buy another one.

I have the same vacuum as the one costco is selling. It is a S4 model and it is made in Germany. It only comes with a regular filter but it can be upgraded to a hepa filter.

Miele's quiet!
I have the Mid-size BlueStar. It's super quiet. all the S5 series have the same motor, the difference will be in the accessories, power mini-brush (great for pet hair or cars), extended hose (for ease of use on stairs) Suction control on the wand, more comfortable grip etc. etc.
The S4 is a less powerful motor. The S4 doesn't have a power head. Or it has a battery powered one.
The Miele we have is so quiet that we can use it at 11PM without neighbours hearing or complaining. We can also have a regular conversation over it. It's wonderful.
Anyway, I think ours has its parts made in Germany, assembled in China... or something like that.
I think only the top of the line ones are made in Germany. If you are big on Made in Germany, go for a Sebo. Excellent Vacuums, tho a bit more expensive and 100% still made in Germany. Their airbelt Vacuums are lovely.
Not to hi-jack the thread, but anyway.
I'm interested to know which model the Costco one is. I'm secretly hoping the S4, so my wife won't be upset that we could've saved a bit by getting a Miele now.

I have recently purchased one of these as well. My old Kenmore finally bit the dust (!) after 10 years. Just as well...I was looking for an excuse to get a Miele.
I just looked at my vacuum, and it's made in Germany. As some have stated, my understanding is the S5 series, sold at Canadian Tire and Sears, (and maybe Costco when we get more details), are assembled in China. I was just at my Costco today, and didn't see any (Moncton).
If you check the specs on the miele site, all the models have the same motor specs. Differences are in the controls, handle, dust bag size, attachments.
I had reservations about buying the Miele solely because of the smaller bag size, but I vaccum once a week my 2500 sq ft house, and after 3 months, the bag is about 1/3 full.
Still, I would seriously consider any Miele over any Dyson. The S4 series is actually cheaper than the "Yellowstar" and "Bluestar" models, and it's made in Germany.
