Montreal Area Phone Number For Sale
I got a free phone number when I was living in Montreal. It comes with free local calls, free long distance in Canada, call forwarding, voice mail etc. This phone is provided by a VOIP company.
I am very happy with it, but I recently moved to Vancouver for school and it's hard to use it here because I can call others for free but they have to pay long distance to call me.
I have been thinking of selling it. A company could use this to have a Montreal phone number because there is free call forwarding, mail box, etc.
I posted it once for sale, and I got a few interested people. But no sale.
I am wondering how much I should ask for this. I do not want to over price it but also I do not want to sell it short because this was pretty hard to get and I could use it myself.
How much should I ask for it, who could make the best use of it?
Thanks For Your Input Guys!

Actually, I don't think you are able to see it, as you do not 'own' the number. If you were to sell it, you would have to change the details of the account holder to the new 'owner', which could make the phone company regain ownership. Failure to change account information could get you in a spot of bother if the new 'owner' used it for something illegal, as you would have a hard time proving it was not you that committed the offence.

The VOIP company says that I own the phone number. I gave them my address, full name, etc.

But did they say you could sell it or that it was otherwise transferable by you to another party? Really, mate...if you can sell it at a profit, more power to you...go for it. However, I doubt very much that you do have the authority to sell a phone number.
You could say that a phone number is like a condo. You own the condo, but you don't have the right to do whatever you want with it - the Condo's Strata council and the government impose restrictions. In this case, sure...you may 'own' the number and have exclusive use over it, but I'd be surprised if you were allowed to sell it. Most likely the phone company itself would want the ability to make some casharoonie off the transaction.
I would suggest you read through the VOIP contract you signed as well as any updates to the TOU. It could say what you can and cannot do with the number. If that's no help, phone the VOIP company yourself and confirm that you are able to transfer the number to a third party, especially at a profit. Who knows...they may even know what the number would be worth, or have suggestions about how to go about selling it.

Well some interesting points.
First though, people sell their phone numbers all the time, sometimes for HUGE profit. A phone number is the same as a domain name, some are more desirable than others and some become more desirable over time.
The company says that this is my phone number for ever. So I presume I have ownership over it. A good idea though came to me as I saw your post, the company sells these numbers, so I will see what the current price is.
