There are lots of records which will go down as unbreakable. Here are some of mine.

Gretzky's 50 goals in 38 games
Gretzky's 92 goals in 82 games
Gretzky's 52 game point streak
Greztky's career total 2,857 points
Darryl Sitler's 10 points in 1 game

Basketball

Chamberlain's 100 points in one game (that's just pure ball hog and crappy players)
Chamberlain's 50 rebounds in one game
Kareem Abdul Jabaar's career total points 38,387
Michael Jordan's playoff points in one game 63

Baseball

Rickey Henderson's single season stolen base record 130
Rickey Henderson's career stolen base total 1406
Mark McGwire's rookie homerun record 49
Cal Ripken's consecutive games streak 2,632 (dumb record because he sucked towards the end of his career and kept playing every game)
MLB the number of times it put me to sleep 43580394856094 and counting

I don't watch the NFL so if someone could post some pretty impressive records that would be nice.

All those records will be broken in time.

the hardest will prob be the hockey ones though.

the rest will be broken, as there are more teams = more games played per season = more pionts for the elite.

MLB:

75 complete games in a season: Will White 1879.

This record will never be broken unless baseball will be played for the whole year and a game per day. Then, it may be mathmatical possible. A starting pitcher only starts about 32 games in a season these years.

And, he started 75 games in 1879 and this is also a record.

gman's record is the hardest to top, though I'd argue that baseball is a radically different game; non-whites not being allowed to play in professional baseball with whites is such a profound difference (more than drugs, 5-man rotations, specialty pitchers, etc) that I don't think a comparison between the eras is usable.

Modern record, I'd say Darryl Sittler's 10 points in a game. If anyone got 7+ points, I figure the other team in this day and age would send the goons out to cripple him. Sad but true.

I think that now that defense plays such an important role in pro sports, records like Gretzky's and Chamberlain's will never be broken. Couple that with the fact that the past NBA, NFL & NHL winners have been real team-based squads (Pistons, Patriots, Lightning), there's a new approach to winning. With the talent pool as high as it is, these ridiculous stats where one player takes the puck or ball for the entire game just can't happen.

Of course, who knows, maybe someone with a third arm will be born soon.

i believe it was 39 games that gretzky scored 50 in

but i do agree with some of you, that gretzky's records as well as chamberlain's will never be broken.

but i will always believe that there was one person who can do it but never took care of himself by staying healthy, and that's lemieux, atleast his all time pts record.
lemieux has the record for pts/games played


i think you can throw in gretzky's 215pts in one year, nowadays players are lucky to get 100.

I guess Will Whites record will stand the test of time because the game has changed.

Look at boxing. 100yrs ago, there were 60round fights. that wont happen anymore, so a 55th round tko is a record set in stone.

But records are meant to be broken.

Look at the homerun record - plp thought no one will ever beat it - add a little performance enhancing drugs, and bingo, we got a new homerun king.

All those 'most of in 1 yr' records will be broken, as time progresses, there are more and more teams, and soon enough, alot of these sports will become year round. No more golfing for the champs, only the losers get to go that.

One of Lemieux's records might be a bit hard to beat. He scored goals on the powerplay, shorthanded, even strength, empty net and penalty shot in 1 game. Theres no doubt players can score 5 goals in a game but to do it in very possible situation might be a little impossible.

Realistically speaking, it is very unlikely any of that will happen except for the playoff points record.

How often does KG even get 25 rebounds?

Karl Malone's days are over... even if he is playing again, he wont be the same scorer he was. Reggie Miller is overrated... He'll end his career soon.

Jordan's record of 63 pts in a playoff game isnt unbreakable... but it sure as heck will be hard to reach. Iverson had 50 against the Raptors, and I dont consider him anywhere near as great as Jordan

wilt's records are pretty damn tough

you're not going to score 100 points unless you get about 50-60 on free throws, and no one's going to get that many calls in a game. Guards won't be able to sustain that amount of energy, so the only ones who really have a shot are big guys, and for some reason good big men can't hit free throws anymore

50 boards ... not with the pace that NBA teams are shooting nowadays

I say the toughest record to break is Cy Young's career wins: 511

Baseball's 162 games, a year, staff ace starts maybe 33-35 games.

A pitcher's gotta win 25+ a year over 20 years to break that record, and that's just a ridiculous pace. Heck, 300 wins is considered a lock for the Hall.

If someone does do it, they should just rename the award to whoever that person is

The 100 points is doable if a 3-point specialist gets phenomenally hot in a run and gun team and is allowed to take 50 shots.
Mr. Robinson made to to 72 a few years ago so it's not entirely impossible.
The 75 complete games will NEVER be broken.
50 rebounds is also hard but Rodman and a few others got to 30 a few years ago. Garnett, I highly doubt, will ever approach 40 much less 50. He doesn't have the vacuum and instinct Rodman has. Besides, that's all Rodman has to focus on (that and freelancing on D).
The Kareem total points is close to falling with Malone heading that way. Kobe has a GREAT chance to beat it seeing as how he's the main focus of the Lakers and he started after high school but I'm hoping he won't be able to do it. Never saw a player as pri-madonna arrogant as him.
The hockey records are hard to top but you never know. A new wunderkidd might emerge in a water downed league that has changed rules to open up the offense.

With different eras in every sport I think it's really hard to say. Gretzky's records simply can't be touched because of the style of todays NHL. Teams play far more defensive hockey. There is so much clutching and grabbing. Goalies are far better than they used to be not to mention the size of their equiptment.

Joe Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak is a record that also can't be touched.

Is that a record for regulation? If not, a game with 2 OT's could easily allow someone like McGrady to bomb away.
