Does anyone know if motorolla's moto g5 purchased from Virgin on a prepaid plan can be unlocked to work on Rogers? And can anyone recommend someone who unlocks? Thanks.

Actually I got a good deal for a new G5 plus through amazon.com. But when I tried to purchase G5 on virgin's website it was $250+5 (for a sim card) + free shipping + tax it was under 290. Add the unlocking, probably $15 so you are looking at a bit over $300.

Virgin will probably refuse to sell it to you on pre-paid. It retails for $250. Either pay the $30 up-front, put it on cheapest silver plan, then cancel next day. Pay the $250+1 day service+$5 sim card + tax.

so this is similar to the koodo dance except that with koodo you have to stay for 90 days to keep GC... IF there's no GC then I can cancel next day and phone will be around $300. This seems to be a reasonable deal as the idiots on kijiji are asking $250 for a G4 Plus used... I can't do any porting as i have PM BF plan..titaniumtux wrote: ↑ Virgin will probably refuse to sell it to you on pre-paid. It retails for $250. For anyone not in Alberta, might be slightly cheaper to port in an AB number, pay $0 on a gold plan and then cancel or port out the next day and only pay 5% sales tax.
No gift cards on the phone yet, but if you cancel right away, you would still keep the gift cards. Just screw over the sales agent with a clawback.
Buy unlock code on eBay for $2-5.

Your profile shows Calgary, so I assume you're in AB? Activate with a new 403 number, then cancel, only pay 5% sales tax, which is what you're used to. Only those of us outside AB bother to port in AB numbers to drop the sales tax on our cellphone buy-outs. Call in the next day to request cancelling the service.kotoula wrote: ↑ so this is similar to the koodo dance except that with koodo you have to stay for 90 days to keep GC... Forgot to mention there's also a $15 device activation/upgrade fee with Virgin Mobile.
If they refuse and ask you to return the phone instead, buy a Bell or Fido sim card for $10, and port the number over to pre-paid. Then Virgin will serve you a bill for the buy-out.
Virgin doesn't clawback like Koodo does if cancelling within 90 days because Virgin doesn't have "activation credits", they add a device activation/upgrade fee, plus not enough subscribers exploit Virgin Mobile for phones as they do with Koodo.

No worries. In your case, you wouldn't pay more than 5% tax on wireless anyway (including buying out from your phone agreements), unless you were to use an SK number for the prairie plan.
