motorcycle insurance
just curious... does anyone pay for insurance just for the summer? i asked my broker about this but he said that i had to insure for the whole year.

Yes, you can cancel after summer. But they'll tell you that the rates are pro-rated for the riding season so you don't get much back. Also, it looks bad the next time you try to renew as this counts as a lapse and they MAY disregard your previous experience.

from my knowledge, statefarm insures bikes at a month by month basis.
catch is they won't insure your bike alone. you need to already have a policy (house, car, etc.) with them.
all other bike insurance companies are total scam artists. most of them pro rate a 6 months... meaning you get insured the full year, but if you want to cancel after 6 months, you get $0 back.

In AB, the policy is pro-rated, as stated above, so that you pay for probably 80% of the policy in the summer months. You could technically cancel the insurance the other 6 mos of the year, but what would be the use as the risk may far outweigh the potential economic benefit. That may be what the agent is talking about.
