Moving Quebec to Vancouver
Hi,
I'm planning to move in Vancouver to work in IT.
I wanna find a job first from here before leaving. Do you think I would have more chance if I have a Vancouver address on my resume or it will change nothing?
By the way, I find kind of hard to find job in Vancouver, but in Calgary, it seems to be the opposite, jobs are easier to find and salary much better! Is it only a feeling or a fact?
Thanks

It's fact. When you're rated the most livable place in the world, there's bound to be oversupply of workers.
Having an address is very important. It says that you are serious. Is it a real address? Family, parents condo, friend, etc? Make sure that it's clear that you haven't changed lives there yet, but you do have a place to live, receive mail, and cook breakfast if needed. It just demonstrates to the employer you're ready to go at a moments notice.

Welcome to Canada's most expensive city to live in!
Before your arrival, we recommend getting a head start on learning cantonese, as it is the city's first language (mandarin would be a benefit as it is the city's second language). In addition, we recommend you familiarize yourself with Asian cultural practices.
We hope you enjoy your temporary visit in our beautiful city.
Your invoice is due, it includes a $25 fee for starting a thread about Vancouver. Your net total after taxes (13% HST) is $28.25.

If the address is real and meaningful, it will probably help your search quite a bit, but it's not necessary. I'm exploring the possibility of a move from Ontario to Vancouver and am using my Ontario address to apply. So far, I haven't noticed a significant drop in interest from companies as opposed to when I've applied within Ontario.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing. So are your interviews conducted via teleconference/phone then? Or do you have to fly to Vancouver for the interview?
Good luck!

It's quite funny how everyone wants to move to vancouver to work, don't get me wrong vancouver is an awesome place to live and work. But you would think after the tons and tons of threads where people say how hard it is to find a decent paying job wouldn't have scared them off already.

it's not even limited to just that. the point i was trying to illustrate in my post was how much of a culture shock a new vancouverite can expect. i'm not sure how multi-cultural quebec is, but vancouver is not very multi-cultural at all. caucasians are now the minority, and if you're a caucasian moving into vancouver, you're going to feel very left out and lonely for awhile, or expect to make friends that are outside of your demographic/social clique or entirely asian.

Depends on what sort of IT you do, IT manager of a crew under 10 people would be around 80-90k. Network admin around 60-70, desktop/helpdesk (non call center) 45-50.
Im sure sharepoint experts make a pretty penny.

Phone interviews thus far. There has been talks of face-to-face in Vancouver, but not so far.

I think that's why most people considering this look to secure a job *before* they decide to make the move. At least that's what I'm doing. I want to know that I can earn enough to live somewhat comfortably in such an expensive (but beautiful) city.
