I second that. I bought this set last year at full price and have been impressed with the quality of the blades. The only warning I have is that you shouldn't leave them immersed in water for long periods (i.e. soaking overnight) as you can get some rust appearing at the rivets in the handles.
Nevertheless a great deal for a set that costs less than a single quality knife!

HF Knives
My friend has had these knives for several months, and I just picked up a set a few days ago (have to go get my price adjustment). For what you are paying, they are a great deal, and miles ahead of anything you could buy at other big box stores in the same price range. Reasonably sturdy and attractive looking in the kitchen. The steel could be better and more rigid, but this is expected for the price.
The main thing you are paying for in a high end knife set is the fact that you will rarely, if ever, need to sharpen them with proper care, and they will last a lifetime. This set requires periodic sharpening, and comes with a pamphlet that emphasizes this. For the price, I'm willing to sharpen!

There were a couple of other positive comments about the knives in the CT Henckel sale thread last fall, around posts 40-42:

DON'T BUY THESE KNIVES!!!!!!! I purchased a set and they are nice and sharp but they rust very easily and once you get the rust off the stain is always there. Just plain poor quality steel!!! IMO as an owner!!
I know I can take them back if I wish which I still may!!
Yes I do use them in the dishwasher and it is always set for the dry setting. They never are immersed in water except for hand washing.Last edited by Hellspawn; Mar 6th, 2007 at 09:16 AM.

I just bought some of these on Monday and tried them yesterday. They were actually not horrible. I bought some rice bowls from Costco a couple of years ago and they were nasty. I would even consider buying these again. (As you can see the key is going in with low expectations)

I have the Hampton Forge knives - and yes, they do rust if left in any amount of water. Mine even rusted a bit from being in the dishwasher, around the rivets. They are darn good knives though for the price. I'm going to bring back my set this week and get a new set - this is why Costco has such a liberal return policy.
