My internet is so slow compared to others on the same connection. why?
I'm using Rogers cable internet (I'm not sure which one, but it's the original one they had before they switched to the different speeds). Compared to other people in my neighborhood even, my internet is CRAWLING! I know it's not my computer, so what might it be?
The modem i'm using is a Terayon ethernet modem. Could this have something to do with it? It's an old modem, but arent the speeds the same?
Thanks for any info.

You should go get the Motorola SB5100 or 5101 modem from Rogers. Call them and tell them you want the Motorola instead of the Terayon.

You should call your provider. They can come out and test your cable to see if it's up to spec...

Cipher is right...you should ask Rogers to tell you what is the speed of the plan that you're supposed to get...do a test using one of the free speed-testing sites people keep talking about (dslreports has one) and, then, call Rogers again if the speed is not up to snuff.

First thing I'd check for is spyware. See what outgoing connections you have going out of your computer as well.

Try Roger's own speedtest.
Are the other people in your neighborhood also using the same modem? Your Terayon modem runs on a seperate network from the newer DOCSIS network that new modems run on. The network you're on could be congested and moving to DOCSIS may help a lot.
