.
Yep. I don't know why, but all the refurbished network devices I have ever bought didn't work well.

EA6500 vs EA6900. Not the same model.

Ea6900 has external Antena which ea6500 don't have,so assume it has better reception and more reliability, besides it will work with Dd-wrt and tomato firmwares as well.i personally using the recertified ea4200 for over 2 years without any issues,so I am not to sensetive about it.

EA4200 ... (or E4200 ?) .... E and EA are very different animals ..... The chipset & FW on Exxxx series are more mature as they've been around for some time and they are very well tested.

However, I personally found the FW for EAxxxx is still a work-in-progress ...... My subjective opinion ....

Are there multiple versions to be aware of, like with the EA6500?

internet is littered with QA issues with the EA6900... Plus this was the first router Linksys released after being acquired by Belkin. So don't expect any "cisco-goodness" with this router. Considering the price, performance seems to be decent and better than any of the AC1750 routers in the same price range, so long as you don't get a dud. Not sure about hardware versions but the router is 2 years old now so it's possible there are multiple revisions out there.

Same radio chipset as the RT-AC68U.. I dare someone to load a RT-AC68U cfe on this!! (may brick it) I would if I didn't get a EA6500 last month.

EA is "App enabled", it is also called SMART. You can control it via an app. EA are considered the current/upscale model.
E is a lower end of the line.

Belkin took over Linksys for a while now, so this is not the first model without the Cisco blessing.

I am reading the review from smallnetbuilder and the tear down shows Linksys is using fewer heatsink for this guy, maybe that's why it's not reliable??

This is a good price for an AC1900 given you have some AC1900 clients to play with on the 5GHz. I have been using 5GHz bridges and they work a lot better on high bandwidth application like streaming HD movies from NAS and file transfer.

Since there are 3 units in the AC1900, looks like Asus and Netgear is still the tied in the first place; but this is a very good contender for someone who wants AC router for under 100.

Is there a v1 and v2 thing for ea6900 model? I'm not sure if it's worth it to upgrade from a cisco e4200 v1, hope it helps with my BF4 kd ratio

Anyone can comment on the condition these are in? I would never buy Canadacomputers refurb because they are obviously used, scratched up and dirty. Never look at any NCIX refurb stuff before so no idea.

I wonder if they are getting their stock straight from Linksys. I know Memex had a bunch of EA6500 refurbs that looked like they were reconditioned by the manufacturer direct.

Not sure if recertified is different from refurbished. There is a version 1.0 vs 1.1. Not sure how to tell the difference though. overheating seems to be the main factor in issues as it doesn't have as big of a heatsink as the Asus or Netgear AC1900 routers with similar chipsets.

I've been researching dd-wrt options (cause I bought one). there's a 64k NVRAM bug that doesn't look good. The flashing to Asus CFE seems like an interesting option. Does it essentially turn the router into an Asus RT-AC68U?

Going to keep reading...

Yeah... I was a big fan of tomato before I was forced to use dd-wrt cause of lack of tomato support on my WRT400N. But now I have so many custom scripts running on DD-WRT I can't switch back to Tomato easily when I switch to the EA6900 =(...

Got mine today. The bottom had some scuff marks, but otherwise everything was mint. How do you tell if it's V1.0 or V1.1? There is nothing in the router setup page or router itself that says what version it is.

Also, has anyone managed to flash an aftermarket firmware onto the unit and running stable?
