If transcoding videos on-the-fly is a factor then NCIX has:

QNAP TS-251+ is $379.99 + you get NCIX.COM $10 Gift Card *Pre Activated*
http://www.ncix.com/detail/qnap-ts-251- ... omoid=1714

QNAP TS-251A is $349.99
http://www.ncix.com/detail/qnap-ts-251a ... omoid=1714

TS-251A price is same as Canada Computers but it's back order.

Thinking about getting TS-251A ..

I would like to purchase my first NAS. I'm looking for a two bay which is good but not too expensive. Any recommendations ?
If you are going to connect it to a battery backup - look for more than 1 USB port.

QNAP TS-431+ selling for $234.99USD on B&H Photovideo - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... b_ram.html
Customs/Shipping is $34.08USD
Total $269.07USD

which is around $365 Canadian tax-in.

thought this was a decent price.
NCIX has it for approximately $362 CND tax-in http://www.ncix.com/detail/qnap-ts-431- ... omoid=1918

Edit: Didn't consider shipping charge (assumed NCIX had free shipping). NCIX would be more expensive in this case.
I plan to live forever!...so far so good.

It was $319 earlier today. I guess the cyber monday deal is over. It was hot while it lasted though, the + model at the price of the base ts-431. Both of those models are now being phased out though and the new mid-range home NAS is coming in ~2 weeks. It's the TS-431P model, with the same specs as the 431+ had, but a bump to 1.7Ghz processor from 1.4Ghz on the 431+. The new model is going to retail around $399CDN

Good choice and hot deal there, @jigsatics. The slightly upgraded model of that one is about to come out, so you're getting a good deal on the current one. The new one is the 231p model, which just seems to jump bump the processor up from 1.4 to 1.7ghz. With Newegg USA do you have to ship it to a friend in the states or a reshipping service?
I shipped it to a relative that lives half an hour away from Niagara Falls.

For anyone looking for cheap NAS storage, Newegg has the HGST Deskstar NAS 4TB for $179.99:

$5.99 shipping or free pickup at their hybrid centre
That's a great deal! Is that the lowest price historically? Must resist. Crying Face

It's 179.99 very often actually, but still good and cheap enough. I bought two last month since HGST has tons of good reviews.

Folks, I have two 3TB Toshiba drives currently in QNAP TS-431+
Looking to add two more drives. Do you guys usually match brand/model or or usually mix and match?
I would always match brand and model in the same array (ideally bought at different times so they are from different batches.) If it's a separate array it doesnt really matter.
