any suggestions on a 8 Bay drive enclosure?

I'm looking at a DS1815+ paired with a Skull Canyon NUC or just a NUC with an 8 Bay Enclosure, however would USB 3 be a limiting factor?

Just picked up a DS1815+ over the holidays. My second Synology and highly recommended if you're comfortable with the costs. The lowest price Ive tracked over the past 6 months is from Newegg & Amazon at $1099.99 and it appears to drop that low fairly regularly. Figured I'd pass along some of my pricewatching in case it helps.

Any particular reason you want\need the NUC? The Synology can host a fair amount of native applications such as Sickbeard, Sabnzbd, Plex etc and also supports Docker now so you can run pretty much whatever you want if its containered. CPU horsepower isn't mindblowing but its probably on par with what you'd get in a NUC.

Hope that helps.

how likely would i be screwed for buying a used NAS like

http://www.kijiji.ca/v-servers/mississa ... nFlag=true
YMMV. I bought my Synology used off Kijiji and it's been running for 3 years without issue.
"I don't even know what this is and i just ordered it... damn it rfd."
"Thanks OP. Didn't need them until RFD'ers convinced me that i did!"

Used NAS hardware isn't necessarily a bad thing, they are basic units afterall. I dont know this brand at all, but its worth comparing them to the QNAP/Synology ones you can get for ~$375 new, that run apps and all sorts of things as well as be a RAID. My qnap does all my torrenting, monitors the security cameras, runs SickRage and grabs all my tv shows, streams them via Plex, etc..

Could someone quote/pm me if they find a good NAS deal? looking for just a 2-bay RAID 1 setup with 4TB drives. Ideally something that can manage torrents at the very least.
Thanks RFD for:

Synology 416Play. Dell Canada has it for $550, plus you can get 10% off through ebates.
How often does that 10% happen?
I am looking to get one of the WD PR2100 so I can use it with plex.
I was going to buy it on Friday or Saturday cause I noticed they had the 10% just like your post from December... I will have to keep an eye out.
Dell Canada seems to have the best price right now.

Qnap TS-431p-US seems to be on sale for $360 everywhere.
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX64898

It's strange that Qnap would release a unit with a 300mhz CPU and 10% performance bump for $150 less than an older, slower unit. It's usually the other way around.

There are no apostrophes in plurals! "I have 1000 posts" = correct. "I have 1000 post's" = incorrect!
Could've, would've, should've. It's simple English, people!

Any questions about the TS-431p-US? I picked one up when they were released in January. Its my first NAS and is working well - as long as you dont expect it to be able to do transcoding on the fly.

oh poo, I am on the fence about getting a NAS and trying to find something that will take away my Sonarr/Radarr/Nzbget and Plex for me from my system.
