Seagate Backup Plus 2TB 2.5in Portable Drive USB 3.0 Red - PM BB/FS

Deal Link:
Price:
$94.99
Expiry:
August 20, 2014
This external hard drive can be PM at Bestbuy or Futureshop for $93.50 (Both have listed price for $109.99)

It looks look this hard drive can be removed from it's case and used in laptops/PS4 etc. From some reviews online it seems as though the internal drive is a Samsung M9T Spinpoint.

2 year warranty from Seagate

Here are the links the Bestbuy and Futureshop:

Is it me or is PMing at FS or BB not obvious? both site have the same functionality but like where do you find the option to PM? please help.
Not sure why this seems confusing to me but OP suggests to PM at FS or BB
against NCIX's lower price to get an even lower price at FS or BB.
why would it be less and not the same at FS/BB?

I am doing a dry run and right now my cart without PM is:

Seagate BackUp Plus 2TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive (STDR2000100) - Black
$109.99
In Stock
Qty: 1
Environmental Handling Fee for Seagate BackUp Plus 2TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive (STDR2000100) - Black
$0.90
Qty: 1

Product Total: $109.99
Shipping TotalFree
Subtotal: $109.99
Environmental Handling Fees: $0.90
More information
PST/QST $11.06
GST: $5.55
Order Total: $127.50

still no sign of option to PM. and before I enter my deets I will quit.
Seem to be less of a hassle to buy at NCIX for 100.68$ shipped even!

NOW this is a better deal than the one I got on Aug 6 through 'Zon ($114.96) So OF COURSE I am in for 1.

Thanks OP!

You have to place the order 1st, then contact them for the price match request.

Thanks for the link. now I know to find it under "contact Us"

In your experience, how long is it to wait for a PM confirmation?

I pulled the trigger already at NCIX. If OP's final price is $93.50 incl. tx, his kung-foo is better than mine!

Usually you call them and provide your order number, they'll confirm whether or not you get the pm right away.

The drive is a Spinpoint M9T and it works great in the PS4 as long as you have the most recent firmware.
It is a 5400 RPM drive but that is fine based on the limitations on the console anyway. You could get a slightly faster drive, but 2TB is great since you probably won't need to ever replace it.

If you do plan to extract it from it's housing run a full set of diagnostics on it to make sure it's a reliable drive inside.
There are videos on how to extract these drives online but it's simple.....I used a strong guitar pick on the edges to pop it.
Lift it out from the front (the rear has the connector on it), peel off the heat tape wrap and the connector just pulls straight off the end.

I did a search for this, and then watched a pile of angry wd customers opening their portable drives to recover sensitive data from a sata defect or to put in another device, and then finding a soldered-on usb port.

one was an it guy asked to recover data for his boss, and got quite irate when he saw the soldered-on part and the soldered-on data encryption. 'how does western digital expect you to recover your data?"

this is a really nice drive. quiet, cool and pretty fast overall.

support companies like seagate, who provide actual internal sata drives (rather than soldered-on frankenstein models like wd and toshiba) that you will actually be able to remove and recover data from if the sata/usb chip burns out.

So, all these drives have the Samsung in it? Doesn't matter which color I pick?

Actually the last time I did a BestBuy order about 2 weeks ago, there was an option during checkout to request pricematch where it asks you to enter competitor's website.
It was a new function and I got an email reply from them about 6 hours after I placed my order in the morning.

This would work in a PS3 as well right?

I can't find an official source, but I've read that the PS3 will only support up to 1TB. PS4 is fair game though.

1tb is the standard answer for safety, but people have stated that 1.5tb works after an early-2014 update - either way it's still not going to work on a 2tb.

Yup. Don't even bother trying to price match at Bestbuy or Future Shop.

Both sites have the same qualification:
5.The product must be in stock, available for sale, and cannot be a limited time offer or available only in limited quantity.

They rejected based on limited quantity.
