These have been around $130 for a few months now. $110-100 is usually the sale/deal price for 3TB.

Windows 7 backup wouldn't work on drives over 2TB. Does anyone know if this has changed for Windows 8?

How is the build quality on these? I had a WD model that was built similarly but returned it after a week since it went blazing hot (used it for a media center).

I had the same issue (using the Win7 built-in back & recovery utility) on my wife's PC. Other backup products will work though (I use the HP backup utility that came preloaded on the PC and it seems to work fine).

From what I've seen, these backup plus drives have decent reviews compared to other external hdd's. When you put a 3.5" drive in a small plastic case, heat is the main concern and most of the enclosures have poor venting. This enclosure seems to have a good amount of venting on the top and back. The most reliable external hdd looks to be the WD passports which are 2.5" drives but they only go up to 2TB and have proprietary connectors.

I have a couple. They get warm when I filled the drive but that was about it.

I figure having these as a backup is good because I can use one mount and leave the drives disconnected. Hopefully this will increase their lifespan?
