Need Advice for a Potential Laptop Purchase

Hello!

I'm considering purchasing this laptop soon and would greatly appreciate any input on it.

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/hew ... 8672e3en02

I keep hearing mixed things about HP as a brand which has led me to re-think my decision. Also, I'm a little hesitant because of the processor speed. Anyway, here's some background info:

- At present, I use a Toshiba Satellite but it's in need of repair. I've had a cracked screen for like 2 years (which I am fine with since I just use an LCD monitor but I don't have the ability to carry it around, obviously), and as of this week, three of my keys are no longer functioning (e, 3 and d; using on-screen keyboard now). Needless to say, the warranty is up.
- I would use the laptop for word-processing, surfing, video streaming & editing (basic), maybe the odd game (not important; some indie games from Steam, not full releases) and graphics work.
- In the event that another suggestion pops up, please consider that I'm not looking to pay more than $350 before taxes.
- I also considered purchasing a netbook, but I ruled it out.
- Any recommendations regarding extended warranties?

These also caught my interest:

(This one seems like a better buy of the two based on the specs.)

Thanks in advance for the guidance!

If you are going to buy an extended warranty, buy from the manufacturer (if you buy an Acer laptop, get the acer warranty, not bb/fs warranty). What you should do is when you go buy the laptop, tell the salesperson you want the warranty, then once you pay for it, return it immediately. This is because salespeople kick the laptops if you don't buy their warranties.

Wow. Just for the record, I'm not interested in getting an Acer laptop.

More on warranties, though, I'm hesitant to purchase one from BB (or anywhere else) because of things I've read. Then again, I've probably also seen an equal amount of positive reasons to sign up.

Hm. Despite what I just said, that seems like a good deal. Not sure I NEED a 600+ GB HD, though. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

EDIT: Also, it's time I purchased an External Hard Drive. Suggestions? :)
