I didn't see this posted anywhere and I think this is a pretty great price. I know there will be many saying bad stuff about 720p - you should decide for yourself after looking at the TV.
LG 50PA4500
Costco item number 889650
A $100-off coupon expires Aug 2 (so price may increase to $589)
Comes with 2 year warranty through Costco (keep your receipt!). With this TV being under $500, Costco will sell a 3yr extension warranty for $29, for a total of 5yr warranty. I don't expect this TV to last 5 years so it sounds like a good purchase.

Isn't this pretty much standard price for 50 inch 720p plasma?

They have gone as low as 449 a couple weeks ago at bestbuy. 500 seems to be the standard sale price that it drops down to once a month somewhere. The 1080p 50 inch insignia LCD from FS/BB @ 500 might be a better deal for some people.

Almost definitely...
Amazon Reviews
On the topic of real TVs, Costco has the Panasonic U50 (or their branding of it) for $849 after $100 rebate and free shipping. Another $60 for the extra 3-years through SquareTrade makes this a pretty good deal. The difference between this one and the UT50 is just a bunch of social media fluff. It'd be better to get one with Infinite Black but that's a big jump in price...Last edited by Captain Snazzypants; Jul 31st, 2012 at 03:26 PM.

If you're using the display as a computer monitor for text or browsing, sure, the Insignia might have an advantage (no flicker, higher resolution), but as a "TV", I would take the LG plasma (720p or not) over the Insignia LCD any day. PQ on the LG plasmas are actually pretty decent.

Better reviews, LCD vs Plasma (both have advantages and disadvantages) and 1080p vs 720p. I buy things because they are well reviewed and well priced, who cares what the label says.

yeah, I was skeptical of the 720p @ 50" but when I saw it I though it looked pretty good and since it will never last 5 years (I don't know if any TV in this size/price will) it's really a gamble to see it it will be replaced within 2 years (included) or 5 years ($29).

does anyone know if you can claim warranty 4 years later without having an active Costco membership?
