need help for a 3-4 day vacation
I'm trying to plan something for my bf's birthday which is in early February. He wanted to go out of town. I'm working and can only take 1 or 2 days off at the most (I'd prefer to take 1 only). So we are planning to leave on a Friday evening or early Saturday morning (depending on length of travel time) and return the following Monday or Tuesday night.
He said he wanted to go to Hawaii, but I looked into that and Air Canada's tickets are like $300-$400 one way, and that's way too costly for both of us round trip. We'd be too broke to do anything there if we did that.
I also looking to somewhere closer such as going to Mont Tremblant, but unfortunately, my bf can't ski or do any snow sports... so I don't think he really wants to go there. Montreal is also out of the question...we've been there too many times.
Is there anyone who can suggest some other places for me to take my bf? My budget is around $1000-$1500... I know it's not much, but I'm so broke these days =(...

You could do vegas pretty cheaply....
How about NYC? Florida? If you take off out of a US airport, will be much cheaper. Check travelocity/expedia/orbitz

Absolutely, if you could drive to Buffalo airport...check out southwest.com. Amazing deals. Took a family of 4 to Vegas, airfare was less than $1000 for all of us.

Thanks for the suggestions. One thing I forgot to mention is that I also suggested Las Vegas, but my bf turned that down because he doens't gamble. Also, he doesn't enjoy watching shows (which I had suggested as an alternative to gambling)... I would really like to go and watch the shows there, but then again.. this is HIS birthday =(.
We went to NYC couple years back... and all we did was shopping. I don't want to do that anymore. He doesn't want to see the tourist stuff there... like times square and empire state building....
I'll look into Florida and what there is to do there.Last edited by Juidd; Jan 23rd, 2008 at 12:54 PM.

I'd suggest anything on the east coast... With your 3-4 day requirement, you don't want to waste time travelling. I just got home today from 16 hours of travelling back from Hawaii..
Even Vegas.. 4 hour flight, 2 hour time difference.. that really sucks when you're coming home and have to work the next day!

with that sort of timespan and not wanting to do a east-coast city where you'd only shop how about something like niagara on the lake? or getting a small cottage somewhere in ontario? Or even montreal or a change of scenery?
if you're into winter sports you could even do something up in muskoka or blue mountain or something in quebec. There's lotsa possibilities in our own backyard!
If you want sun, flights to say miami are pretty cheap. The all-inclusive idea isn't bad either. I really loved cozumel and i'm typically not into sunshine destinations.
EDIT: damn i shoulda read the OP closer before mentioning montreal or snow sports! DOH!Last edited by CoffeeAddict; Jan 23rd, 2008 at 01:53 PM.

Okay, so you guys have ruled out the following:
winter sports (skiing, snowboarding)
shopping
sight seeing
concerts and shows
gambling
What else is there to do?
Usually, on these smalls trips, that's exactly what you would be doing. All of the above. Florida is nice I guess but what to do there that is sufficient for a 3 day trip? You could go to the beach I guess.
Perhaps you could save the trip until later on when you guys have more time or money. As for his bday, you could buy him a nice gift with your 1000 dollar budget. Actually, you don't even need to spend that much for a nice present.
Good luck!_______________

I say go with Florida. Its only a 2 hour flight. Airfare is very cheap, especially to Orlando. Look into Southwest air out of Buffalo. Im not sure about hotels. But with the hundreds of hotels in that area Im sure theres one to fit your budget. Theres lots to do at the many theme parks: disney, sea world, universal. Im sure others would know of some deals on passes to the parks.
