The LC52LE640U has slightly better picture quality.

LE640 has slightly better blacks, better grayscale/color and seems to have less uniformity issues.

LE830 is the hands down winner.
If the higher model number isn't the first clue, both of these reviews state they share the same drawbacks both noting lighter black levels and uniformity issues on both models. So I'm not sure how these reviews would make the 640 better than the 830 - albeit I only read the summary. In addition, the 640 also seems to have stutter issues which would be cause for concern. Further on the 830, it also has Sharp's quad pixel technology which Sharp claims to produce "a smoother looking image with a higher perceived level of detail." It could be marketing gimmick, but the 640 simply doesn't have it. However what makes the 830 the clear winner is that the 640 uses a matte screen, while the 830 i believe is using a clear glossy screen. Despite what nay-sayers in the technological community have said over the years, every major manufacturer in the world knows it is in fact a proven and irrefutable technology that will produce brighter images, more rich & vibrant colors, and significantly sharper image quality when compared to matte screens. The only reason you would want matte is if you're sensitive to bright light, prone to eye strain, or if for some reason are just a fan of it.

I never understood the point of the Quattron system. RGB to RGBY? Why?
Anyhow, Sharp's top end 80" LCD (LC-80LE632U) has dropped Quattron, which I think says something.
OP, the 830 has Quattron, the 640 doesn't. I'd want to see them side by side to make a decision.
