Need help identifying a MOBO component...
My friend's MOBO died the other day and it looks like this component on the circuit board burned out. It's a Gigabyte GA-7DXR motherboard. Can anyone identify the component? I think I should be able to just buy a new one and unsolder the old one and replace it.

A transistor maybe? Can you take a pic without that spot in the middle.

It seems to be in the power supply circuit, judging by the coil and the big electrolytic capacitor next to it, so it's probably a power transistor or rectifier. But I would guess that the chances of successfully replacing a motherboard component like this are slim. They're not meant to be replaced, the likelihood of ancillary damage caused by the original failure is high.

Isn't that little thing (with a white dot on it) called voltage regulator ?

The white spot was caused when the component burned out. He said there was the smell of smoke and then the system stopped working. It powers up, but there's no video.

Not the first time this has happened to this motherboard model, it would seem :P
