1. Will it work? Yes, you may have to play around with the mounting to get the balance right.
2. Is it a random orb polisher or straight rotary? (see question 3)
3. Do you have a lot of polishing experience? (Judging by your question, I would guess not). A wool pad on a rotary can do LOTS of damage to your paint. If you're a noobie (like me), get a random orb polisher and a series of foam pads. Wool pads are for serious paint correction. They will take out deep swirls, but they will also cause holograms and burns if not used properly.
I believe that CT sells Porter Cable, but way too expensive. Get a Porter Cable 7424 from HD, Lowes or better yet, south of the border. Order foam pads and supplies and off you go. I buy most of my stuff from eshine.ca. Fair prices, and a lot of stuff you can't get anywhere else in Canada.
Eshine sells complete kits, too. (to get you started)

Dealcatcher,
tread carefully. M105 is a cutting compound, which means that it is polisher. It is not a wax. Putting 105 on a wool pad will do some serious polishing. That's fine if that's what you want (i.e., on a heavily swirled car or with lots of oxidation, meaning dullness, not rust, on the paint).
If you have a dark coloured car, I would beg you to practice on a junkyard panel first.
After you polish, you will need to wax. Megs #16 is legendary for durabilty, but not easy to use. #26 (Hi tech yellow) is a good all-round product. If you are willing to look beyond megs, there's a world of other products that will do the job....
Let me know if you want more tips.

It will but you will have the be extremely careful. Even though VS Polishers lack speed; wool is a very aggressive pad. It will marr surfaces and with a VS Polisher; you will be spending 30 hours to get out the marring put with the wool pad. Most of the time natural wool pads are just used under MF bonnets for wax applications. Foamed Wool is used for heavy swirling.
I would opt for an orange foam pad and give that a try with a medium compound for heavy swirling. If you don't see any progress; move to the wool but like I mentioned before; it will be a long, difficult time before you finish.
M105 is not a wax; if you have never waxed before; don't even think about using M105! I would like to mention; NOT to use M105!!! M105 is a very, very aggressive polish. With a wool pad you will surely marr your vehicle. I would never use M105 on a cheap polisher; if you have the deep marring you need to move up to a more powerful polisher instead of a more aggressive polish. M105 is kind of a last resort polish too; have you tried orange pad with say M95? M105 + Wool pad + VS Polisher + newbie = XDisaster. Sorry to be saying it like this; but I really am trying to prevent you from more problems. M105 needs to be followed upeither way; so you need to go down in terms of the aggressiveness of the polish and pad.
Hope the best for you and your paint's future; although I am not thinking it will be so great for your paint...
If possible could you please post any detailing related questions in the main thread so we do not have to clutter the main lobby; thanks.

Meguiars makes some good Polishes; M95/M105 are excellent cutting polishes for very hard clear coats. 3M also makes some good polishes. You can also purchase Automagic polishes; although I have not been fond of the results but they have the price down right.
