Need a New Forum For Camping

Sports and Fitness just doesn't cut it.

Camping is not a sport or an exercise.

Camping is huge in Ontario!

Perhaps you can be a little more detailed on what you mean by "camping". We also have a travel forum which may cover some or all of this as well. If there's a big enough need for something, we'll create it. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense.

Hey Tom,

Canoe trip camping, hiking camping, car camping.

That sort of thing.

When you look at the Travel forum it's all, "Where the best spaghetti in Italy?", "How do I save money on airfare", etc. Camping can be something you do while traveling but typically when people go camping, camping is the goal not the traveling.

The Camping Ontario group on Facebook has over 7000 members. People ask questions like, "What tent should I get?" or "What is a good campground in southern ontario for car campers with kids".

Tom -- perhaps an "Outdoor Living" section or sub-section would capture what the OP is asking.

Camping, bbqing, hiking, rock climbing, urban exploration, etc...

Works for me although I would say that bbqing would probably fall more under food and drink or house and garden.

This is a great idea. I actually came to RFD today, thinking it already had a section like this only to find that it didn't.
Would love to have a dedicated sub-forum to share tips/posts on backcountry camping, camping gear, etc...

What could possibly be done on RFD that isn't covered here, or in similar?

http://www.campingforums.com/forum/

Me, I'm interested in alligator racing. Can we please have an alligator racing forum?

My wife enjoys herding cats. Can we get a cat herding forum too?

A US camping forum is not much help when asking questions about camping in Ontario.

I'm pretty sure there are forums out there that cover any forum on rfd. Should we shut down the rfd forums?

I do not support the OP's idea. Camping fits perfectly fine in Sports & Recreation. At least get the name of the currently existing forum right.

I don't see any threads in that forum pertaining to camping.
Then start them.

The proper category is there, even if it is not utilized.
Simply creating a category named "camping" won't cause posts to magically appear.

I dislike too many sub-categories in many things, including forums.
It reaches a point where everything has a sub-forum and usability decreases.

I also enjoy those activities you mention, but frankly there are other already existing websites better suited to those activities.
The lack of posts, probably already demonstrates people know this.
For the odd thing which might be specifically appealing to RFD (deal, regional things), a whole separate sub-forum isn't required.
