Is the wireless router/modem using any MAC filtering, or could it be using encryption that isn't compatible with the USB adapter?

I didn't set MAC address filtering...
I have got it to work.. for some reason, when I leave the router as unsecured, the wireless card will not connect... ONce I set it to WPA-PSK, it works! weird...

Try starting out fresh by going into your wireless networks properties and deleting all the existing preferred networks. Whether encrypted or not, connect by viewing available networks instead of configuring it from the preferred networks screen.
