I passed on both these and went for the Dell deal. Getting a dual core for less than $100 more and twice the memory of the FS deal (not to mention bigger screen among other advantages) is worth it IMHO.

Nope. It comes with 1 512mb, and you only need to buy 1 more 512mb. I did for my mother's setup.

But would you notice a difference in productivity between an Intel cpu and an AMD cpu? Probably not; so whatever is the best balance between price and features would make my decision.

I've recommended Celeron-M laptops to friends and they're more than happy (I'm sure it would be the same case if it was Sempron-M). They're better than the old dinosaurs they had before, so it's all good.

I'm afraid that it's model-/brand-dependent. My Toshibas come with 1X512MB stick (before upgrade).
