What? Canons prices are higher than Nikon?
They just announced it, the price will settle... the Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 VRII was around $2700 when they first announced but it's dropped substantially since.

Sure this is the 2.8 thread... but all this love for the 2.8...

I mean, obviously 2.8 beats 4... but its double the weight :(

My F4 is starting to feel pretty light and something I could carry around all day! I didn't originally think I'd get to that point with this lens - at least this quickly...

With this update, at least from Canon's perspective, I suppose the 2.8 is now considered superior to the F4 in terms of quality/sharpness? (I recall reading many times that the F4 - I think the F4non-IS was sharpest...)
The F4 is sharper over the 2.8. I've used 3 of the 4 versions and I must say I wish I never sold my F4 just for the purposes of light weight. I had bought the F4 as my first L lense for $400.. and sold it for $500... I can't believe I didn't keep it. It is definitely the sharpest imo. Some have argued that the F4IS is sharper but honestly... I can't see a diff.

And for the record, 2.8 is still too slow. 1.4 and 1.2 is where its at

How much is the Nikon lens retailing for now?

Heh... I just checked US pricing... hasn't changed... weird... it was released @ $2399 MSRP in the States, that is how much B&H is selling it right now.

I guess only the Canadian pricing has dropped, I remember it was listed as $2699 MSRP here when first announced, Henry's is selling it for $2499 (regular pricing, no sale).

And I guess "substantial" is a big of an exaggeration but $200 drop is better then nothing.

You read wrong, Kaitlyn =)
It's the F4IS that is claimed to be the sharpest zoom or sharpest 70-200 of all 4 (don't know which one)

Thats what I have been.
