ABOUT COLLEGE VS HIGH SCHOOL
-Should be exciting during the first year
-70% of the professors are very nice
-The breakdown of the mark is usually small with assignments, labs, etc
-Slightly more reading than high school
-After going through 3 years in College, I noticed the mid-term tests are mostly based on knowing "Facts" from the textbook. Someone who doesn't understand and memorize the facts can get a good grade. My friend is weak in English and made it through the entire program.

-Similar to high school (small class sizes & you'll see the same people in your class everyday)
-College is more relaxing than high school (because your timetable is different everyday. Whereas high school you have a fixed timetable)
-In the first year, you'll meet people from all kinds of program. Once you get into your second year, you'll see the same buddies every day.

In Seneca, I think most of the professors are very very bad (at least in my program anyways)...Since you are in ELCM, the first two semesters are the same as mine (ECT), so most likely you will get the same teachers...They can't teach and most are lazy...Ratemyprofessors.ca "usually" have good reviews and are pretty accurate most of the time...

I'll have to add that it is very hard to meet people outside your program because you face the same profs and students every single day...I think high school and university are better in this case...

I'd agree with this, although the good ones tend to be very good (great people, really know their stuff, will go the extra mile to help you).

There's basically no school-based culture or activities in college. Obviously you can still meet people and socialize, but the college won't help you facilitate it in any meaningful way.

This is by far the greatest disadvantage of colleges compared to universities, it's a huge difference between the two institutions.

Also, I think high school is much harder than college (for my program)...If you compare the math, English, and programming courses, you'll see what I mean...

I found that too, it can be disconcerting when some courses have no relationship whatsoever to your other ones...

from what i've been told and what i've observed from friends. college is not all that different from highschool in terms of the work you have to do. it's obviously more focused on a specific goal. the biggest difference between secondary and post-secondary education is that you'll be completely on your own. you're doing it for yourself. no one's going to chase after you, attend classes at your own discretion. it's all about how motivated you are and if you really want to get through it and maybe learn something.

I will also give you a little tip that most students don't know. If you look at your timetable, the names of professor with "CAPS LOCK" could change anytime from now to the first day of class. So, keep checking your SIRUS once in a while. The professor name with lower letters are the ones that will be teaching you for sure (no changes)

College was easier then high school, very spoon fed. Then again I speak from an Albertan perspective.

same with for me. College was so easy compared to my University prep courses in high school. It is for this reason I am trying to get into university.

Here's an example of why college is easier... I didn't get accepted to ryerson because my highschool english wasn't up to par. My 80% in college english didnt matter. I went to highschool 4 years ago.

Some professors are bad but the very goods are great. CPJ has the best professor (then again you won't be taking CPJ anytime soon )

I ripped off the tests in 10 minutes each with 99% scores, but you'd be surprised how many people in my 1st semester computer programming classes failed them (or scored low enough that they had to retake it). ICA is more of an idiocy filter than an educational experience...
