If the new iPod announcements happen tomorrow as rumoured - I bet they'll announce this year's 'Back To School' promotion at the same time.

Perhaps they'll return to the free iPods of year's past instead of the more recent gift cards?

When given enough time, all threads on RFD can and will go off on a tangent.

I use a clickable iPod shuffle in the garden and when cutting the grass. Easier to navigate blindly than with a phone.

Because an iPhone costs $839 and this will sell for a fraction of that. That makes it a great iOS device for kids and teens. It's also a great device for those of us who are parents of teens and have better things to spend $1000 on than a phone.

I wouldn't recommend an iPhone 4S for anyone these days. It's pretty damn slow in general, and as an iPod, it's not as good as an iPod with physical buttons IMO.

The new iPod touches coming out will likely be based on either the A6 SoC or the A7 SoC, but hopefully the latter. However, even with an A7, for a music iPod at least, I'd rather just have one with clickable buttons.

BTW, we've owned:

iPhone 3G, 4, 5, 5s
iPod shuffle
iPod nano (rectangular one)
iPod nano (square one)
iPod mini
iPod 3G

Of all of those for music playback, I liked the iPod mini the best, and the iPod nano (long rectangular one) second, with the iPod shuffle coming in third. The first two have clickwheels, and the third one just has buttons.

Disappointed with yesterday's rumour not coming true?

Try today's rumour!

[QUOTE]Apple will be rolling out a refreshed line of iPods today, according to sources. As indicated by new colors recently found in iTunes on the Mac, the new iPod touch, shuffle, and nano will come in new darker blue and pink colors. A gold color will be added as well for all three iPods.

The new Nanos and Shuffles won’t get new features, but the iOS-based iPod touch will see a considerable upgrade. Here’s what we’re hearing is coming to the touch:
  • Major camera upgrade from 5 megapixels to 8, matching the count on the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2.
  • New 64-bit chip for faster operation and better graphics for gaming. Will also help it plow through future iOS versions beyond iOS 9.
  • “M” chip from the iPhone for fitness, steps, and elevation tracking.
  • Pre-loaded with iOS 8.4 and Apple Music following the June 30th launch.
  • New 128GB model for $399, still starting at $199 for 16GB. There will also be a $299 model with 64GB of space. [USD]
As indicated by the references last month in iTunes 12.2, the overall designs and screens of the new iPods will remain the same as their predecessors.

I'm pleasantly surprised, the iPods get the A8 SoC. Impressive, esp. considering they jumped all the way from the old and slow A5. I feel sorry for anyone who bought an iPod touch in the past year. Same for anyone who bought an original iPad mini in the past year.

Maybe this make the superstitious Chinese customers happy: 888 - iOS 8 running on an A8 SoC with an 8 MP camera.

BTW, soon they can start deprecating 32-bit Apple iProducts, esp. if Apple TV goes A8 soon too.
