New laptop make/model discussion

I bought a Dell XPS M1710 2ghz core 2 duo, 2mb ram, 17" screen, 100gb 7200 rpm hd, 256mb nvidea vid card, 802.11n, ~$2,800, 3.5 years ago. It's been nothing but trouble. I'm on my 2nd battery, 3rd power supply, 1 mobo ram slot gave out, and the 2nd one is now having memory parity errors.

It might be time to get a new machine, preferably a 17" with decent power, and good reliability. Anyone have a suggestion as to good names so I don't end up with another lemon? Ideally I would like to keep it in the $2000-$2500 range this time and am not overly interested in Macs.

Thanks,

+1 for ASUS G73JH

I bought an ASUS G73JH-A2 from Canada Computers for $1619 when it was on sale a week or so ago.

If you don't need Blu-ray, get the A2 model to save a few bucks.

Thanks. That's a decent looking machine. 1TB is more than enough HD space for me, so do you know if it supports RAID instead, so it's just faster 500GB?

Google says it doesn't support raid.
