New PM Policy @Staples?

Tried to PM the WDTV, which was selling for $99 @MemoryExpress, with Staples (they are selling it for $179), and I was told by the manager that the max they could lock down was $50  . I just left w/o buying; I didn't argue with them.

the policy as I knew it when I was there was it was 10% of the difference up to a maximum of $50.

so the difference would have to be like $500 (ie. laptop they are selling for $1500 would have to be $1000 somewhere else)

It wouldn't even matter for that purchase since Staple's PM policy is only 10% of the difference in price (10% of $80).

They used to match the price then on top they gave you 10% of the difference. In my case it should have been $92 ($99 - 10% of $80). But to knock down $50 only, it would come to $129 ($179 - $50)!!!

if that is what he said, you shouldve called him out on it. they have it posted on the wall somewhere that it's match, then 10% the diff.

There's really not much you can do about it.

Read the last line of that pm policy.

WE WILL NOT BE UNDERSOLD! 110% PRICE GUARANTEE

If you find a lower advertised price on an in-stock new identical item from an Authorized Canadian dealer, now or within 30 days of your purchase (14 days on computers and laptops), just show us the price. We will match it and give you 10% of the difference as a credit to your purchase (maximum $50 credit)!

If our competitor has a bonus offer with an item that we carry, we will match the competitor

The manager was trying to weasel his way out of doing a price match. (They are notorious for doing this)

My understanding from the Brewmeanie's quote of the price match guarantee, I understand that the $50 maximum does not apply to the actual price matching, but only the difference.

For example:

Staples has item A for $2000, FS has the same item A for $1000. Staples would match the price at $1000, but instead of beating Future Shop's price by 10% which would be $100, they'd only allow $50 max.

If someone would be kind enough to clarify with a non-in-store customer service rep preferably a e-mail it'd be nice to have in the future if they try to pull this on me.

+1 Figment

The policy saids max $50 credit My interpretation is match competitor's price and less $50 (maximum)

Competitor sellings at $1000
Stooples will at best sell you at $950
