i think city police cars would only have the V6 while the hwy police have the V8 IF hwy police decides to get these

that is according to the strategy of michigan state police which makes sense

just not sure if hamilton follows
but probably would just use V6 in cities

There is no way cops will drive in V6. These cars are very very heavy with RWD - 3.5 is not enough for that car, ESPECIALLY for the cop car.

but it does seem like the cops are considering the V6 at least since its its a bit better than what u get with the ford interceptor

Most departments will probably be looking most seriously at the 3.5 since it is “fast enough” and cheaper (both in gas mileage and initial purchase price); it is almost identical in acceleration to the standard Ford, and while not quite up to the Ford with the optional axle ratio in acceleration, it’s also not that much below it, and beats it in top speed by a good ten mph. Most importantly, perhaps, the braking distance is far better than the Ford or Chevy - that extra ten-plus feet of braking distance in the competitors can mean the difference between an accident and a near hit, or even life and death. The Hemi version of the Charger simply wipes the floor with the Chevy and Ford. The down-side of the Charger is Dodge’s absurd mis-handling of the Intrepid brake fires, and perceptions that Dodge service departments are not up to par.

The OPP still has the nicest fleet of vehicles by far in North America. Everything from Yukon's to Volvo's.

Impala SS now has an available 5.3L V8. But still FF though.

But anyways, think about it, the majority of people will be driving what? Honda Civics, Toyota Corollas and Toyota Camrys, a powerful V6 is plenty enough to chase down those cars.

What engine did you think was in those new Chevrolet Impalas that are currently being used for the past 3 years? They are a V6 as are the last series of Intrepids (3.5 V6) used as cruisers.

One of GM's new advertising features for the new 2006 Impala pictured above is a small V8.

That is one of the reasons the Ford Crown Vic was so extensively used, as it was the last model to continue with a V8 after Chrysler and GM dropped the V8.

Never offered under the police package. Might have been a few one off's during the last production year of the old Impala; but I doubt it.
