New RBC Rewards + Visa. Worth getting it or no?

Hey,

I see there's a new RBC credit card today on their web site. Is it worth getting it? how does it compare to competition on other points card with no annual fees?

+ no annual fee
+ 1 point per dollar on groceries, drugstore & gas transactions
+ Faster redemption on selected gift cards "Only with RBC Rewards+ Visa, 2500 points instead of 3500 points for $ 25 gift cards.
+ up to 3500 points in sign up bonuses if you complete their digital challenges
- 1 point per 2 dollars on other transactions
- lack of insurance

Thanks

Thanks

I think you meant 1 point for every $2 on every other purchase.
and these digital challenges may be a waste of time to collect data for third party companies - which ultimately they will sell to TP companies - RBC = WIN

I still think the Tangerine CB MC is the better card; choosing items from a catalog doesnt give you the freedom to buy whatever you want or save the earned CB as the T-CBMC;

So 1% rewards for gas/grocery/pharmacy and 0.5% on other transactions? Seems really bad, almost identical to the Scotia Momentum No-Fee,

Tangerine is better than that. PC MasterCard (even non-WE) is better than that. AmEx Simply Cash (1.25%) is much better than that, where AmEx is accepted anyway.

I guess it's a slight improvement from the visa gold...

I wonder if existing Visa Gold customers will be able to get 3500 pts from the digital challenges. I haven't received any info in the mail about this change yet.
Cards:HSBC WE MC 1.5%/3% travel 0 FX MC acceptance 31 day med AF $49
CTC WE MC 3% grocery, 3.54% CTC, RA, billpay
Bank: Alterna (2%+, no fees)
Brokers: IB (For. stocks/low comm)/Reg. RBCDI(service, USD)

Trade offs, and now I'm not sure if it's better...

Disregarding signup bonus (including the digital challenges you have to do within 60 days):

Rewards+
1 point / $1 on gas, groceries, drug stores
1 point / $2 on everything else
2500 points instead of 3500 points for $ 25 gift cards from Amazon.ca, iTunes, Starbucks, McCafe and Cineplex
Purchase Security and Extended Warranty Insurance

Visa Gold
1 point / $2 on everything
Every 100 RBC Rewards points is worth $1 CAD towards travel
Insurances, including Travel Accident, Auto Rental Collision/Loss Damage, Purchase Security and Extended Warranty

So you gain faster redemption on certain things, but lose out on the insurance.

I just closed my rbc visa gold two days ago... Should have waited.

For what it's worth, I think you can reopen a recently closed RBC credit card account by calling them.

However, RBC conducts a hard inquiry to reopen a just-closed cc.
