New tires but actually 5 years old received from Partsengine.ca

Hello,

just received these tires today and although in theory they are new they were manufactured in 2014.
What is your opinion?
I hope the company takes them back.
I would not mind a year old but 5 it's unacceptable.

definitely send them back unless the discount you got on them was 50% of market price.

Canada, Eh!!
Don't chance it as no idea how stored
2022/3: BOC raised 10 times and MCAP raised its prime next day.
2017,2018: BOC raised rates 5 times and MCAP raised its prime next day each time.
2020: BOC dropped rates 3 times and MCAP waited to drop its prime to include all 3 drops.

Dumb question but is the manufacture date on the tire somewhere?

As the tires are from partsengine.ca, a specialist supplier, I suspect that they don't sell too many tires and/or they are a size that your average car owner would not be in the market for.

Such as, tires designed for using off-road as well as the highway?

If there is no evidence of cracks starting in the rubber, and you expect to need them only for the next 3 years or so, I would not waste time and expense in returning them.

But moral of the story is always buy tires from a high volume outlet.

i was told that I can return them.I let you know.
Yes, it's a size not very common: 255 45 18. (winter)
I also learned something else.If you buy a new model tire then it is manufactured in the current year.
Since I drive very short distances (3000 km) I need them to last 8 yrs at least.I'll go with the Conti Viking 7.

Good plan.

Mine came dated 1919 on 2 and 2019 on the other 2.

Hopefully I won't have issues with 2 being older than the other 2 down the road. ;)

I still did not get an RMA to return them. These guys don't really have a return policy. They send my pictures to the manufacturer and now I'm waiting for the manufacturer to
decide.Lesson learned.Don't buy tires online unless it's from a very reputable place.

Its not only online. I bought 4 high end Michelins this summer and told the retailer (top tier national tire place) that I was very picky about the date of manufacturer and to let me know. They had to order them and when they arrived they said they would check when I brought in the car to install. When I brought it in they were swamped but the sales guy went to check and said everything was fine.

I go to pick up the tires and they were made in 16. I threw a fit and it took a month and multiple visits to get them to order a new set. Even those were 1618 a year and a half old.

Whatever you do, don't send them back. I just got stung for 200.00 returning a tire and 3 months later I still have no refund and they won't return any correspondence. Unfortunately I googled them after the fact and they have a terrible reputation.
Steer very clear!!

OP bought their tyres like 1.5 years ago, I think you're a bit late to the party.

Competitor trash talking PartsEngine, or somebody that got very upset by not reading the T&C's?
