you need to go into your router settings (http://192.168.1.1 should be the default) and set your wireless network settings. Remember them (type of encryption, network name (SSID), and so on), then go on the laptop and input them so you can connect.

I don't think its an encryption issue since your laptop cannot even see the router. Make sure SSID broadcast is turned on.

Is your work laptop using some sort of special software to deal with the wireless? You might have to go through that instead of the Windows network settings.

Did you try to manually add a network? Just add the SSID and ency, it should recognize it, providing the hardware is working.

Simply put:
1. Post your router wireless settings.
2. Take a screenshot of your wireless survey.

this is what i'm thinking to...try this..
1. right click on "my network places" and go to properties OR go into control panel and double click on "network connections".
2. right click on "wireless network connection" and click properties.
3. go to "wireless networks" tab. check the box "use windows to configure my wireless network settings" then click ok. double check to see if that box is checked by going into the settings again. then view the available networks.
*if that is already checked you may have to enter your wireless ssid and info manually if you cannot see it as you may not be broadcasting your ssid. or the fact that the wireless on the router is not on. check those settings.
