This is indeed odd...
Mobile Phone Tools only works via USB cable. Some V-series Moto phones have Bluetooth as well, but MPT doesn't support that.
Do you have the phone plugged in and correctly recognized by Windoze when you try to run MPT?

newbie question about V400 with data cable..... any help ?
Duh...
My wife has a V400 phone and we got now a usb data cable.....whats next ? lol
The cable came with a cdrom with some usb drivers. After installing them, nothing happened. On a separate cd there was a Mobile Phone Tools software, which I installed and it makes no difference....when I run it, it cannot detect the phone.
First of all...is this software supposed to be included ? lol... from what I read elsewhere its a comercial software, but this was included in a "recorded" cd.
Any ideas ?
Many thanks in advance._______________

And is Winblows supposed to recognize the phone ? Would it be in the Device Manager area ? Should it create a shortcut to the device or something ?
I plug the phone (turned on) to the cable and to the computer and nothing happens.
I have 2 moto phones, this V400 and an older V60, and both reacted the same way.
Maybe a defective cable ?
EDIT : Do I need any drivers at all ???Last edited by laptop-tech; Feb 20th, 2006 at 08:21 PM.

When you plug in the phone, its screen should light up. Otherwise Windoze should see your phone as a modem actually. Try plugging it in another USB port.
And also trying manually forcing the drivers from the CD-ROM in the device manager._______________

I pllug the phone to the cable and the phone does NOT light up at all. Windows does not recognize any new hardware.
Looks like a bad cable, I guess._______________

check the bottom of the phone, if the connector looks dirty, then thats the first thing you should clean, also check to see if the pins are making good contact. otherwise see if your usb ports are enabled, if theyre disabled try re-enabling them on your bios, just incase they werent.

there's a black cap covering the pins of the cable that should connect the phone, take that off.
also UPDATE the drivers online. install the program and look for the online update option.
you should be fine. i got a v400 aswell. trying to unlock it. i got USR but it doesn't work for v400. anyone got a eimi calculator?

I have the V400 with the usb data cable and I had similiar problems to what you had with MPT not recognizing the phone. I would say try to uninstall MPT and anything else to do with the phone especially the drivers that you installed Then re-install MPT and then update it to the newest version. Once its all updated run MPT and plug the cable into the usb port and then turn it on. MPT should recognize it and you should be good to go. Hopefully this helps as I know MPT is fussy about plugging the phone in before you install the program and I think thats where your trouble lies. I just double-checked the installation instructions and it says not to connect the phone or the cable before the software is installed. Hope this helps.

thanks everyone.
I believe its a bad cable... I tried on another computer and the same happened. It does not prompt the new hardware wizard on Windows or detects anything at all.
Its not the MPT that is not recognizing it...Windows cant see it either._______________

thankfully those cables come with a 1 year mfgr's warranty, and often a 15-day money back guarentee depending on where you purchased it from.
