Newegg.ca - SAMSUNG STORY Station 1.5TB External Hard Drive - $103.99+tax+shipping
Hope this isn't a repost but today's Shell Shocker features a Samsung Story Station 1.5TB external hard drive for CDN $103.99 + tax + shipping at Newegg.ca and US $99.99 (no tax, free shipping) at Newegg.com.
http://www.newegg.ca/Special/ShellShocker.aspx
http://www.newegg.com/Special/ShellShocker.aspx
If I get this delivered to my door, the breakdown will be:
$ 103.99 Samsung Story Station 1.5TB
$ 4.99 UPS Standard shipping
$ 5.45 GST
$ 7.63 PST
$ 122.06 CDN Total
and if I get this delivered to a U.S. border down [EDIT: I meant town], the breakdown will be:
$ 99.99 Samsung Story Station 1.5TB
$ 0.00 UPS Guaranteed 3 Day Service
$ 0.00 [no tax]
$ 99.99 US Total
so my final total should be around:
$ 99.99 US * $1.02881 CDN = $102.871 CDN + 2% = $104.93 CDN
[currency conversion] /[2% foreign exchange commission]/[duty-free status on hard drives]
This deal should be valid until 1:00pm PST (4:00pm EST) or while supplies last. Whichever method you prefer, I've never seen the external 1.5TB Samsung Story sell for this cheap.

You still need to pay GST at border if you claim, you need to pay extra gas and spend extra time. More hassle IMO.

That's a weird knob in front.

Most others have either a push-button or a rocker switch in the back.

GREAT drive. The USB interface is extremely fast, considering it's only USB 2.0. The included software is actually very usable (I am using it under Win7/x64). As already pointed out, it has been cheaper ($100 + free shipping). The knob just controls the intensity of a white LED that shines downward from the bottom of the unit (and to control power on/off obviously). Otherwise it's a great power saver as it automatically sleeps when no activity is detected. Great for off site backup (I shuttle mine from home to work once a week) and looks great too.

I bought this last year paying around $110. I prefer my old one, USB2.0 and eSATA 500GB as I could use eSATA when needed.
It's a decent external HDD for this price. I don't have issue of too much noise or heat. I still find the turning knob a little funny.
The two bundled programs are just average. Backup software could not backup the whole system but folder-based. The secure folder software works only on this external HDD, not on your internal disks or other externals. Crippled softwares, worth $5 each.

Doesn't matter. A 5400rpm drive is faster than USB.
