Newegg.ca Shell Shocker: Sapphire HD 2400PRO 512MB $28.99 Free Shipping
Newegg.ca has the Sapphire HD 2400PRO card on again as their Shell Shocker. Here's the thread from when it was the Shell Shocker deal on Feb 6.

It's a dollar more this time, and no $10 MIR, but there's "free" shipping (just a $1 US fee to cover brokerage). The "handling" fee you will be charged is really the sales tax.
Still a good deal if you are looking for a cheap passively cooled card.

Are these video cards any good? How do they perform for older games like CS?

can someone post the best gaming card for i dont know...under 100 bucks with no rebates?
Anyone have a link to a comparison chart for video cards like I've seen in the past? www.gpureview.com has a tonne of cards but i cant find one that compares them in a chart.
This looks like a good deal for people that have onboard graphics and want some more juice.

Meh
I bought this card when it had the MIR. I think it was solid for $10 less. The extra $$ is certainly making my local computer store offerings more competitive. If you only get shipped products this is pretty good, but there are frequently decent offerings of 3450 & 2600Pro in the low $30 range. This card does not ship with any HDTV output adapters (neither DVI-HDMI nor TV-R/G/B component out). I had an extra adapter from my 2900Pro, but not everyone is so fortunate.
Mic
** Note that these Sapphire cards ship with the onboard jumper for TV output set to PAL. Switch it to NTSC if you intend to output to TV over a s-video or composite out cable. You can see it right at the top of the card.

Even CS:S isn't very demanding in terms of graphics performance, you could probably pull off a constant 40-60fps with this card on high settings.
Btw, graphics card hierarchy:

Judging by the pic, the heatsink will be too tall to fit into low-profile case ...
You need this card instead ... http://www.infonec.com/site/main.php...tail&id=410598

not bad for the ones that missed the MIR.
Would prolly go hand in hand w/ the 420$ Acer htpc desktop from the CC thread.

some problems here
Hi,
Got it last week after reading this thread. Fast USP delivery,
~32$ delivered, probably 10 MIR later.
Problems:
-1- rather tight space between metal strip bent and nearest hexagonal
screw of VGA output. On standard back wall , I had problem
inserting the card into PCIE slot because of this screw
did not allow card be aligned perfectly vertical before insertion.
I had to align it with some angle and apply some force to snap it in.
Removal did also involve some force.
In second computer it was OK, because there was complete opening
in area where metal strip bent.
-2- Rather high idle temperature -- 75C!!! on one computer and a bit
better on second computer 57C (Second PC has better case fan.).
Simple movies and average load
pushed it to 80C and 60-62C. No heavy load was tested
(I am not in gaming). IN internet people say that
such boards certified till 105C and high temperatures expected
for passive cooling design.
-3- The card was purchased to make dual monitor on linux.
ATI provides linux driver but it failed on "startx" in redhat FC10.
I was able to startx with redhat "radeon" driver.
Nevertheless, two monitors started in clone mode (show ablsolutely
the same screen). system-config-display failed to setup
real dual screens.
The solution was to switch this 2400pro with geforce7200gs
on another computer. NVIDIA linux driver was set in 3 minutes and
TwinView worked right away. 2400PRO was set in WIndows XP PC
and apparently works OK there. A frend of mine confirmed that
in general nvidia has better linux support than ati.
So, after all it was happy-end here.
Have fun
AV.
